   Je vous ai promis un article sur des produits étranges, le voici ! J'ai remarqué sur ebay un vendeur Ukrainien qui met en vente des boites en bois contenant des cartes SD. Deux choix se posaient à moi: juste regarder en me disant que ce sont des produits non officiels, ce qui est vrai, ou en acheter pour voir et juger de la qualité de ces produits. J'ai choisi d'acheter et je peux ainsi vous donner mon avis.

   I promised you an article about strange products, here it is! I noticed on ebay a Ukrainian salesman selling wooden boxes containing SD cards. I had two choices: just look at them and tell me they are unofficial products, which is true, or buy them to see and judge the quality of those products. I chose to buy and I can give you my opinion.

   Ce vendeur propose donc trois produits différents (au 28 février 2023, date de cet article): un relatif à Senjutsu, un à Night of the dead, et un duo Book of souls et Book of souls live chapter. Commençons pas ce dernier. Afin de préserver le sticker recouvrant le duo je n'ai pas ouvert ce produit, me réservant cela pour les deux autres. Voici le recto et le verso:

   This seller therefore offers three different products (as of February 28, 2023, date of this article): one related to Senjutsu, one to Night of the dead, and a duo Book of souls and Book of souls live chapter. Let’s start with the latter. In order to preserve the sticker covering the duo I did not open this product, reserving this for the other two. Here is the front and back.

   L'aspect fini est joli, l'impression des textes est nette. Il y a deux références, soit SD-21058 et SD-21059, ce qui est logique pour deux titres proches. On note aussi que la marque Something special est indiquée sur les crédits. Je n'ai rien trouvé sur cette marque sur le net, probablement juste un nom pour faire bien !

   The finished appearance is pretty, the printing of the texts is clear. There are two references, SD-21058 and SD-21059, which makes sense for two similar titles. We also note that the Something special brand is indicated on the credits. I found nothing on this brand on the net, probably just a name to do well !

   Ouvrons maintenant le produit consacré à Night of the dead:

Now let’s open the product dedicated to Night of the Dead.

   Il s'agit d'un carré mesurant 10 cm de côté, en carton épais, collé sur un morceau de bois creusé. C'est réellement bien fait, limite usiné, en tout cas bien pensé. L'intérieur comporte une languette qu'il faut ouvrir via des pointillés pour dévoiler la carte CD et une surprise: une allumette ! En effet les concepteurs ont collé un sticker sur lequel il est écrit "burn after listening", invitant l'acheteur a brûler le contenant. Ou autre chose ? Quelque chose de spécial en tout cas:

   It is a square measuring 10 cm in length, made of thick cardboard, glued to a piece of carved wood. It’s really well done, machined limit, at least well thought out. The inside has a tab that you have to open with dots to reveal the CD card and a surprise: a match! Indeed the designers have pasted a sticker on which it is written "burn after listening", inviting the buyer to burn the container. Or something else? Something special anyway.

   Mais j'imagine que vous avez tous constaté qu'il y a un problème ! En effet le visuel intérieur et le texte est celui de Senjutsu ! Et si on observe bien la carte CD aussi ! Il y a aussi un autocollant sous cette carte et il reprend aussi le visuel de Senjutsu. C'est bête mais ce travail fort sympathique est ruiné par des étourderies: visuel d'un album de 2021 pour un produit de 2020, mélange de visuel des deux titres et surtout mauvaise carte SD dans le produit !

   But I imagine that you have all noticed that there is a problem! Indeed the interior visual and the text is that of Senjutsu! And if you look at the CD card too! There is also a sticker under this card and it also takes the visual of Senjutsu. It’s silly but this very nice work is ruined by mistakes: visual of a 2021 album for a 2020 product, mix of visual of the two tracks and especially bad SD card in the product !

   Regardons quand même cette carte SD. Elle contient les titres de Senjutsu au format Flac. J'ai quand même vérifié avec un bon antivirus avant de l'inséré de mon ordinateur, on n'est jamais assez prudent:

   Let’s look at this SD card anyway. It contains Senjutsu titles in Flac format. I still checked with a good antivirus before inserting my computer, one is never careful enough.

   Et la boite pour Senjutsu alors ? C'est exactement l'inverse. elle contient la carte de Night of the dead et des visuels de ce produit. Donc les auteurs ont tout simplement inversé sur leur chaine de montage les deux produits. En voici la preuve:

   And the box for Senjutsu then? It’s exactly the opposite. It contains the map of Night of the dead and the visuals of this product. So the authors simply reversed the two products on their assembly line. Here is the proof upper.

   Alors au final que valent ces produits en termes de collection ? Pas grand-chose car ce produit est plus sympathique que collectible. De prime abord attirant il ne s'agit au final que d'une carte SD, qui ne fera jamais la comparaison avec un CD ou un vinyle dans une collection. Et si l'aspect usiné était remarquable au premier abord, des erreurs dans la chaine de réalisation ont provoqué de fâcheux mélanges entre les titres. Je ne sais pas si cela est aussi valable pour le duo des book of souls. Alors est-ce que je vous conseille ces achats ? A vous de voir si vous êtes un collectionneur acharné, un curieux ou fan de ces boites. Ou si tout simplement vous êtes fascinés par cette allumette et qui, comme moi, vous vous interrogez encore sur sa fonction ?

   So in the end what are these products worth in terms of collection? Not much because this product is more friendly than collectible. At first sight attractive it is only an SD card, which will never compare with a CD or vinyl in a collection. And if the machined aspect was remarkable at first, errors in the production chain caused unfortunate mixtures between the titles. I don’t know if this also applies to the duo of book of souls. So I recommend these purchases? It’s up to you to see if you are a relentless collector, a curious or fan of these boxes. Or if you are simply fascinated by this match and who, like me, still wonder about its function?

   Cet article concerne un maxi 45 tours de Maiden Japan qui, comme sa belle pochette bleu l'indique, provient de Corée du Sud. Je commence à avoir pas mal de titre venant de ce pays, officiels ou non, comme celui-ci. Car c'est effectivement un fake.

   This article is about a Maiden Japan 45 rpm EP which, as its beautiful blue cover indicates, comes from South Korea. I’m starting to get a lot of titles from this country, official or not, like this one. Because it’s a fake.

   Sa référence est STEREOPHONIC RK 7. Ce nom particulier est bien un fabriquant de disque Sud-Coréen, qui œuvrait dans les années 90 voir un peu plus. Sa particularité est que STEREOPHONIC était spécialisé dans la vente de disque aux militaires Américains basés dans ce pays. Cela explique le pourquoi de la pochette reprise sur le modèle Américain. En effet à part des collectionneurs un Américain non fan ne va acheter qu'un tirage US, pas Français ou Espagnol. Donc autant viser juste !

   Its reference is STEREOPHONIC RK 7. This particular name is indeed a South Korean record manufacturer, who worked in the 90s or even more. Its particularity is that STEREOPHONIC was specialized in the sale of records to the American military based in this country. This explains the reason for the cover on the American model. Indeed apart from collectors an American not fan will only buy a US print, not French or Spanish. So better aim right!

   La pochette est donc bleue et reprise sur le Tirage Harvest MLP 15000 de 1981. On y retrouve les crédits de l'époque et le code barre. A savoir qu'il existe au moins un tirage avec une pochette d'une autre couleur: verte.

   The cover is blue and reproduced on the Harvest Print MLP 15000 of 1981. We find there the credits of the time and the bar code. Namely that there is at least one print with a pocket of another color: green.

   Venons en aux labels qui sont blancs et très laids ! Ils sont assez simples et découpés à la main avant collage sur le vinyle. La matrice est MLP 1 15000 A et 619 A. Ce dernier groupe est assez étrange car il ne correspond en rien aux références du tirage US. Peut-être une référence interne mais pourquoi ne pas avoir alors indiquer RK 7 ?

   Let’s come to labels that are white and very ugly! They are quite simple and hand-cut before gluing on vinyl. The matrix is MLP 1 15000 A and 619 A. This last group is rather strange because it does not correspond to the references of the US print. Maybe an internal reference but why not then indicate RK 7 ?

   Comme tous les fakes ils gardent une part de mystères (datation exacte notamment) qui sont encore plus compliqués a résoudre que pour les officiels faute d'information fiable.

   Like all fakes they keep a part of mysteries (exact dating in particular) that are even more complicated to solve than for officials for lack of reliable information.
