   Pour finir cette longue série consacrée au premier album voici un tirage Vénézuélien acheté dans un Salon il y a presque 8 mois. Comme j'ai quasi arrêté d'acheter sur ebay à cause des frais de port et des taxes ce n'est que dans des salons que je peux trouver des produits intéressants sur tous les plans. Dont ce tirage Sud-Américain.

   To finish this long series dedicated to the first album here is a Venezuelan print bought in a record convention almost 8 months ago. As I almost stopped buying on ebay because of shipping costs and taxes it is only in record convention that I can find interesting products on all levels. Including this South American print.

   Sa référence est EMI 102 04492. Cet album a été réalisé en collaboration avec la corporation Los Ruices. Cette société a été fondée vers 1970 pour fabriquer sous licence les tirages pour EMI, RCA et d'autres compagnies, sur le Venezuela. Par la suite Los Ruices a perdu le contrat avec EMI mais a continué, sous d'autres noms, avec RCA, puis a fini par être rachetée dans les années 1990 disparaissant définitivement. On peut aussi noter que le dépôt légal indique la date de 1983.

   Its reference is EMI 102 04492. This album was produced in collaboration with the Los Ruices Corporation. This company was founded around 1970 to license prints for EMI, RCA and other companies in Venezuela. Subsequently Los Ruices lost the contract with EMI but continued, under other names, with RCA, then was eventually bought in the 1990s disappearing permanently. It can also be noted that the legal deposit indicates the date of 1983.

   Cette date n'est pas anormale pour un premier tirage, car il y a eu un décalage dans plusieurs pays, sur différents continents, entre la date officielle de sortie et celle au Venezuela par exemple. Outre le manque de notoriété du groupe à cette époque, les infrastructures locales ne permettaient pas non plus de fabriquer un produit correct en 1980. D'ailleurs la qualité des produits en Amérique du Sud, mais aussi ailleurs, fait que souvent ils ont mal vieilli et que trouver une pochette et un disque implacable tient du miracle. Probablement à cause du climat, mais aussi du manque de soin pour le stockage. Sur le dos de la couverture on trouve un sticker rond posé sur l'impression blanche d'origine. Je pense qu'il s'agit d'un sticker modifiant une taxe ou un prix indicatif, comme les stickers Pathe Marconi.

   This date is not abnormal for a first draw, because there was a gap in several countries, on different continents, between the official release date and that in Venezuela for example. In addition to the group’s lack of notoriety at the time, local infrastructure also did not allow for the production of a correct product in 1980. Moreover, the quality of the products in South America, but also elsewhere, makes that often they have aged badly and that finding a cover and a relentless record is a miracle. Probably because of the climate, but also the lack of care for storage. On the back of the cover is a round sticker placed on the original white print. I think it is a sticker modifying a tax or an indicative price, like Pathe Marconi stickers.

   Le label est jaune avec le texte rouge. La "Corporaçion Los Ruices" figure bien sur le texte des crédits. Les titres figurent en Anglais et en Espagnol. A ce propos le titre Prowler est traduit ici en Vago (vagabond), tandis que sur le tirage Espagnol il est écrit Vagabundo. La matrice est bien comme la référence mais avec un C devant, soit C 102 04492.

   The label is yellow with the red text. The "Corporaçion Los Ruices" appears on the text of the credits. The titles are in English and Spanish. In this regard the title Prowler is translated here into Vago (vagabond), while on the Spanish print it is written Vagabundo. The matrix is like the reference but with a C in front, C 102 04492.

   Je vous retrouve avec plaisir après quelques vacances bien méritées ! Et pour ce nouvel article je vous propose un très beau produit, en l’occurrence le tirage Anglais de 1997. Ce tirage fait partie de la série de "The First Centenary", qui célébrait le centenaire d'EMI en 1997. A ce titre 100 disques ont été réédités avec un habillage spécial.

   I look forward to seeing you again after a well-deserved holiday! And for this new article I propose you a very beautiful product, in this case the English print of 1997. This print is part of the series of "The First Centenary", which celebrated the centenary of EMI in 1997. As such, 100 records have been reissued with a special dress.

   Sa référence était EMI LPCENT 35, à savoir donc le 35ème disque de cette collection. Cette référence figurait dans un code barre que l'on retrouve sur des rééditions CD, ou sur les vinyles des années 2000. Ce code barre était 724382142812. La police de caractère est importante car elle est en caractère bâton, ce qui la distingue par exemple du Times New Roman utilisé en 1993. Pour les rééditions CD ce changement de police de caractère nous aide à différencier deux tirages. Ici nous sommes certains que ce vinyle date de 1997 car c'est écrit dessus !

   Its reference was EMI LPCENT 35, so the 35th disc of this collection. This reference was in a barcode found on CD reissues, or on vinyls of the 2000s. This barcode was 724382142812. The typeface is important because it is in stick type, which distinguishes it for example from the Times New Roman used in 1993. For CD reissues this font change helps us differentiate two prints. Here we are sure that this vinyl dates from 1997 because it is written on it !

   La pochette a donc été modifiée mais reprenait certains textes de la pochette de 1980, notamment les crédits au dos et aussi le GO 8004 GL pour identifier l'imprimeur. Mais outre le EMI 100 sous le code barre, un sticker avait été collé sur le recto pour le différencier du premier coup d'oeil:

   The cover was modified but included some texts from the 1980 cover, including the credits on the back and also the GO 8004 GL to identify the printer. But in addition to the EMI 100 under the barcode, a sticker had been glued on the front to differentiate it from the first glance.

   Le disque est plus épais que l'original, car comme indiqué sur le sticker il est de type 180 grammes. Le label de type Eddie a aussi été repris, avec comme seule modification les références. La matrice aussi a été changée pou LPCENT 35 A111:

   The disc is thicker than the original, because as indicated on the sticker it is 180 grams. The Eddie type label was also taken over, with the references as the only modification. The matrix was also changed for LPCENT 35 A111.

   Je ne connais pas le nombre d'exemplaire produit pour cette réédition, mais je sais qu'elle est recherchée et qu'elle cote plus que le tirage original. Vous savez probablement que ce vinyle du groupe n'est pas le seul qui a été réédité. En effet The number of the beast a lui aussi eu les honneurs du LPCENT, avec le numéro 7. Dès lors il convient, pour tous collectionneurs, de posséder les deux:

   I do not know the number of copies produced for this reissue, but I know that it is sought after and that it scores more than the original print. You probably know that this vinyl from the band is not the only one that has been reissued. Indeed, The number of the beast also had the honours of the LPCENT, with number 7. Therefore, it is appropriate for all collectors to possess both.

   L'article pourrait être terminé mais, vous me connaissez, je cherche souvent à ouvrir sur un sujet différent en fin de texte. Et là je vais vous apprendre peut-être qu'il existe un troisième produit du groupe portant le terme EMI 100. Il s'agit du tirage CD Japonais de Best of the beast de 1996. Mais, petite subtilité, il ne fait pas partie des 100 albums célébrant l'anniversaire. Et pour cause, il a été mis en vente en 1996. En fait le texte sur l'obi indique que 1997 sera le centenaire d'EMI. Une sorte de teasing avant l'heure donc:

And here I will perhaps teach you that there is a third product of the group bearing the term EMI 100. This is the Japanese CD edition of Best of the beast from 1996.    Changeons encore de pays avec un produit Italien d'Iron Maiden, tirage initial de 1980. Sa référence est EMI Italiana Spa 3C 064 07269 comme l'indique les marques au dos de la pochette:

   Let’s change countries again with an Italian product from Iron Maiden, original edition from 1980. Its reference is EMI Italiana Spa 3C 064 07269 as indicated by the marks on the back of the cover.

   Venons-en au label puisque c'est la principale originalité de ce produit avec ce beau label EMI jaune et rouge, dont la couleur diffère légèrement selon les pays. Le rouge plus être très nette, ou tirer vers le rose, tandis que le jaune est soit franc, soit orangé. Ici c'est plutôt un rouge foncé et un jaune sableux, même s'il faut se méfier des rendus du scanner:

   Let’s come to the label since it is the main originality of this product with this beautiful yellow and red EMI label, whose color differs slightly depending on the country. The red more be very clear, or pull towards the pink, while the yellow is either frank or orange. Here it is rather a dark red and a sandy yellow, even if one must be wary of the renderings of the scanner.

   Terminons cet article finalement assez court et simple sur la matrice, qui est 07269 A suivi de la date du 15 mai 1980, habitude très pratique de la part des Italiens pour dater les tirages. Cela signifie que ce disque a été vendu en léger décalage sur le marché Italien par rapport aux autres pays. A noter également le tampon encré des droits de taxes, là aussi un classique en Italie.

   Let us finish this article finally rather short and simple on the matrix, which is 07269 A followed by the date of May 15, 1980, very practical habit on the part of the Italians to date the draws.    Outre les tirages Français et Japonais j'ai aussi une affection particulière pour les tirages Allemands, probablement aussi nombreux que les deux pays cités, voir même l'Angleterre. En effet l'histoire de la fabrication du disque a voulu que les vinyles ont été longuement fabriqués en Allemagne, avant de déménager en Hollande. Mais s'il n'existe souvent qu'un seul tirage Hollandais à partir de Piece of Mind (et jusqu'à Seventh son), il existe un grand nombre de tirage Germanique. Je vous propose de voir tous ceux concernant le premier album.

   Besides the French and Japanese prints I also have a special affection for the German prints, probably as many as the two countries mentioned, even England. Indeed, the history of record making meant that vinyl records were long manufactured in Germany, before moving to Holland. But if there is often only one Dutch print from Piece of Mind (and up to Seventh son), there is a large number of Germanic prints. I propose you to see all those concerning the first album.

   Et cette nouveauté serait le troisième tirage Allemand, estimé en 1983 (j'en reparle plus loin). Pour les différencier il y a cinq moyens: présence du tampon EMI gauffré, label EMI ou jaune, référence, matrices et encore tirage Fame. Le produit pour cet article se trouve au milieu de la production, avec label jaune et le tampon EMI gauffré. Sa référence est EMI Electrola 1C 064 07 269:

   And this novelty would be the third German print, estimated in 1983 (I’ll talk about it later). To differentiate them there are five ways: presence of the waffle EMI stamp, EMI label or yellow, reference, matrix and still Fame print.    Il possède un tampon EMI Gauffré. Ce qui nous indique qu'il est postérieur à 1982. Deuxième moyen d'identifier. Et le label est jaune, et non pas EMI. C'est donc une réédition. Troisième moyen d'identifier. Mais dire que ce label est jaune ne suffit pas:

    It has an EMI waffle stamp. Which tells us it’s post-1982. Second way to identify. And the label is yellow, not EMI. So this is a reprint. Third way to identify. But to say that this label is yellow is not enough.

   En effet je possède 4 tirages Allemands avec le label jaune, sans compter le Fame. Donc dans quel ordre les classer ? Pour ma part j'utilise une méthode simple: mes yeux et mon cerveau ! Certains vont sur Discogs, mais moi je préfère me fier à mon instinct. Car Discogs, même s'il reste une base de données extraordinaire, est rempli d'erreur. Donc j'observe les détails et les différences, et je réalise un synthèse en me posant toujours la question: et si tu te trompes ? Je souhaite critiquer mes conclusions afin d'écrire le moins d'erreurs possibles. Et donc ce que j'écris est toujours le fruit d'une réflexion. Voici mon cheminement pour le classement des tirages Allemands.

   Indeed I have 4 German prints with the yellow label, not counting the Fame. So in what order? For my part I use a simple method: my eyes and my brain! Some go to Discogs, but I prefer to trust my instinct. Because Discogs, even if it remains an extraordinary database, is full of errors. So I observe the details and the differences, and I make a synthesis by always asking myself the question: what if you are wrong? I want to criticize my conclusions in order to write as few mistakes as possible. And so what I write is always the result of reflection. Here is my progress for the ranking of German prints.

   Si j'observe les quatre labels de mes tirages, je constate que le texte en rond est différent, soit en Allemand, soit en Allemand et Anglais, et de différentes tailles. La logique veut que le premier tirage (hors label EMI) comporte un texte exclusivement Allemand. Pour moi c'est celui-ci:

   Ensuite je propose le label du produit présenté dans cet article. Pourquoi ? Car le texte est cette fois-ci en Allemand et Anglais, mais en plus il est plus long, sans faire toutefois le tour du label:

    Vous constaterez que la référence, un moyen d'identifier, est identique sur les 5 labels. Les matrices aussi. Et à part le tirage avec label EMI, ils ont tous un tampon EMI gauffré au dos. Dès lors, pour les dater, je vous propose ce ci:

- label EMI = 1980

- Label jaune texte Allemand et non location = 1982 (car tampon gauffré EMI)

- Label jaune texte Anglais et Allemand court = 1983 (Car il arrive après celui de 1982)

- Label jaune texte Anglais et Allemand long = 1983, mais peut-être 1984 (car ensuite c'est le Fame de 1985)

- Label jaune avec DMM = 1985 (Fame)

You will see that the reference, a way to identify, is identical on the 5 labels. The matrices too. And apart from the EMI label print, they all have a waffle EMI stamp on the back. Therefore, to date them, I propose this:

- EMI label = 1980

- Yellow label text German and not rental = 1982 (because embossed stamp EMI)

- Yellow label text English and German short = 1983 (Because it comes after that of 1982)

- yellow label text English and German long = 1983, but maybe 1984 (because then it is the Fame of 1985)

- Yellow label with DMM = 1985 (Fame)

   Dès lors je peux affirmer qu'il existe au moins 5 tirages Allemands d'Iron Maiden entre 1980 et 1985, avec 1 en 1980, 3 entre 1982 et 1985 et 1 en 1985. Peut-être qu'un jour on en découvrira un autre, mais depuis le temps il serait déjà apparu ! Mais comme j'aime terminer mes articles sur une ouverture vers un autre sujet, voici un dernier tirage Allemand très particulier, car vendu en France sous la marque EMI Pathé Marconi:

   Therefore I can say that there are at least 5 German prints of Iron Maiden between 1980 and 1985, with 1 in 1980, 3 between 1982 and 1985 and 1 in 1985. Perhaps one day we will discover another, but by now it would have appeared!    Comme promise je débute avec cet article une longue série d'articles sur des 33 tours. Et dès le départ je vous propose du lourd: le 7ème tirage Français d'Iron Maiden, et avec des variantes mes 9ème et 10ème disques Français différents.

   As promised I start with this article a long series of articles on 33 rounds. And from the start I propose you some heavy: the 7th French edition of Iron Maiden, and with variants my 9th and 10th different French discs.

   Et si vous voyez deux disques sur la photo c'est qu'il y a effectivement une différence entre les deux. Premièrement, ce tirage date de 1986. Je m'étais arrêté en 1985 avec un tirage Français imprimé en Hollande (indication sur la pochette) et un label jaune. Je le date de 1985 car il comporte le nom de Pathe Marconi SA sur les labels, et on sait que ce changement à eu lieu en 1985 lors de la sortie de Live after death. Mais effectivement il peut dater entre 1986 ou 1988, mais faute de meilleure indication j'ai choisi 1985.

   And if you see two discs in the photo, it’s because there is a difference between the two. First of all, this print is from 1986. I stopped in 1985 with a French print in Holland (indication on the cover) and a yellow label. I date it from 1985 because it includes the name of Pathe Marconi SA on the labels, and we know that this change occurred in 1985 when Live after death was released. But indeed it can date between 1986 or 1988, but for lack of better indication I chose 1985.

  Les deux tirages que je vous montre en photo sont issus de la même famille. La pochette est la même que ce que je vous ai décrit précédemment, de même que les labels.    Sur la photo vous pouvez-voir un élément que je vais maintenant vous montrer. Un sticker indiquant une offre de prix réduit valable du 28 septembre au 31 décembre 1986. Ce sticker ne figure pas sur le tirage de 1985. Et donc déjà ce sticker nous indique que ces deux tirages datent de 1986:

   On the picture you can you see item that I will now show you. A sticker indicating a discount offer valid from September 28 to December 31, 1986. This sticker is not included in the 1985 draw. And so already this sticker tells us that these two prints date from 1986.

   Sur la photo vous pouvez également voir un sticker prix sur un disque, et pas sur l'autre. On y reviendra. Et maintenant voici un autre sticker collé au dos des deux disques:

   Si vous lisez régulièrement mes articles vous avez déjà vu ce sticker doré Pathé Marconi sur un tirage de Powerslave. Ce sticker indique un changement de code prix PM, passant de 251 à 760. Et confirme la date de fin d'offre au 31 décembre 1986. Nous sommes donc en présence de deux 33 tours objet du retirage de 1986, à durée limité, et donc très rare. Car soit en 1986 les fans Français l'avaient déjà, et donc ils ne l'ont pas acheté, soit beaucoup ont enlevé les deux stickers, le rendant identique au tirage de 1985. Et je pense que les 5 premiers albums du groupe ont fait l'objet de ce retirage limité en 1985. J'en possède maintenant 2.

   If you regularly read my articles you have already seen this golden Pathé Marconi sticker on a Powerslave print. This sticker indicates a change of price code PM from 251 to 760. And confirms the offer end date to December 31, 1986. We are therefore in the presence of two 33 towers object of the reprint of 1986, with limited duration, and therefore very rare. Because either in 1986 the French fans already had it, and so they did not buy it, or many removed the two stickers, making it identical to the 1985 edition. And I think the band’s first five albums were the subject of this limited reprint in 1985. I now own two.

   Mais cela n'explique pas pourquoi je vous montre deux disques car s'ils sont identiques il n'y a pas d'intérêt. En fait sur les deux un est un tirage promotionnel ! En voici le preuve:

   Au sujet des tirages promos, pour la France, j'ai déjà indiqué qu'il existe plusieurs tirages promos pour chaque titre. Je ne sais pas combien mais peut-être deux ou trois. Il existerait un tirage promo par retirage en France. Je l'ai observé et confirmé de part des pochettes et matrices différentes. Et expliqué par le fait que Pathé Marconi devait avoir pris l'habitude de sortir de la chaine quelques disques pour les tamponner, que ce soit un tirage initial ou un retirage. Et c'est logique car si vous voulez vendre un retirage il faut que la presse en parle. Et quoi de plus simple d'envoyer un cadeau promo à un journalise de Best, Enfer magazine ou hard rock magazine.

   Regarding the promotional prints, for France, I have already indicated that there are several promotional prints for each title. I don’t know how many, but maybe two or three. There would be a reprint promo in France. I observed and confirmed it from different covers and dies. And explained by the fact that Pathé Marconi must have taken the habit of releasing some discs from the chain to stamp them, whether it is an initial print or a reprint. And it makes sense because if you want to sell a reprint, the press must talk about it. And what could be easier to send a promo gift to a newspaper of Best, Enfer magazine or hard rock magazine.

   Pour le dernier CD de la longue série je vous propose un produit rarement vu. Pour moi ce fut une surprise de le trouver car c'est la première fois que je le voyais avec ce sticker. J'ai en effet déjà montré le tirage de 2005 annonçant le concert au "parc des princes" à Paris, mais il existe donc un autre tirage "Français datant de 2003, annonçant la sortie de Dance of death.

   For the last CD of the long series I propose a product rarely seen. For me it was a surprise to find it because it is the first time I saw it with this sticker. I have indeed already shown the 2005 draw announcing the concert at the "parc des princes" in Paris, but there is therefore another "French print dating from 2003, announcing the release of Dance of death.

   Donc ce tirage de The number of the beast est à la base un remaster de 1998 produit par EMI. Hors digipack il existe au moins 7 rééditions que j'ai identifiées, et parfois quelques variantes à l'intérieur de ces rééditions. Et ce n'est pas seulement la matrix différente qui me permet de les différencier, mais aussi des impressions très différentes sur les CD, ou des logos EMI aussi différents. J'ai rédigé une page spéciale (004) sur ces rééditions pour vous aider si vous voulez en savoir plus. Pour celui-ci c'est assez facile de connaitre la date de réédition puisqu’elle est indiquée sur le sticker: 2003.

   So this edition of The number of the beast is basically a 1998 remaster produced by EMI. Outside digipack there are at least 7 reissues that I have identified, and sometimes some variants inside these reissues. And it is not only the different matrix that allows me to differentiate them, but also very different prints on CDs, or EMI logos as different. I have written a special page (004) on these reissues to help you if you want to know more. For this one it is quite easy to know the date of reissue since it is indicated on the sticker: 2003.

   Mais ce n'est pas le seul moyen que j'aurais pu utiliser car la matrix m'aide aussi car on sait que l'original de 1998 à comme matrix EMI Swindon. Et en 2003 c'est Mediamotion qui gravait les CD pour EMI. Et cela était indiqué soit clairement, soit plus subtilement via le groupe chiffre/lettre comme 010110 NL pour des retirages de 2005 ou ici 1.1.2 NL. Attention, pour compliquer la chose, 1.1.2 NL (ou similaire, comme 3.2.1 NL ) est aussi visible sur des tirages plus anciens, notamment des années 90. Mais à la différence des années 1990 le gravage est plus petit. Et pour encore plus vous perturber vous noterez sur les scans présentés que EMI Swindon apparaît aussi. Cela s'explique par la réutilisation de la matrice qui a été transféré d'EMI à Mediamotion. Cela signifie pour résumer que ce CD a bien été re-gravé en 2003 mais avec une base datant de 1998.

   But this is not the only way I could have used because the matrix also helps me because we know that the original from 1998 has as matrix EMI Swindon. And in 2003 it was Mediamotion that burned the CDs for EMI. And this was indicated either clearly or more subtly via the digit/letter group as 010110 NL for 2005 reprints or here 1.1.2 NL. Be careful, to complicate things, 1.1.2 NL (or similar, like 3.2.1 NL ) is also visible on older prints, especially from the 90s. But unlike the 1990s the engraving is smaller. And to further disrupt you will notice on the scans presented that EMI Swindon also appears. This is due to the reuse of the matrix that was transferred from EMI to Mediamotion. This means to summarize that this CD was indeed re-burned in 2003 but with a base dating from 1998.

   Venons-en au sticker. Il est collé sur le plastique entourant le boitier. Il indique un prix spécial pour ce retirage (9€38, soit 61,53 francs comme indiqué au dos sur le sticker du prix. Car en 2003 on indiquait encore les deux prix francs et euros). Et surtout la date de sortie du nouvel album Dance of death, soit le 9 septembre 2003.

   Let’s come to the sticker. It is stuck on the plastic surrounding the case. It indicates a special price for this reprint (9€38, or 61.53 francs as indicated on the back of the sticker of the price. Because in 2003 we still indicated the two prices francs and euros). And especially the release date of the new album Dance of death, September 9, 2003.

   A ce jour je n'ai pas trouvé d'autre tire avec ce sticker. Ces autocollants sont souvent détruits lors du retrait de la protection plastique. C'est donc un beau témoignage d'un passé tout de même assez récent, que je poste avec grand plaisir pour les futurs collectionneurs. Mais il reste une question à élucider: Pourquoi ce CD comporte t-il les logos des droits Bel Biem et SIAE et non pas seulement Bel Biem, comme en 1998 ? Comme je vous l'ai écrit en préambule c'est ainsi un moyen de distinguer ces rééditions. Et si vous êtes curieux jetez un oeil sur le logo EMI du CD de 2003 et de l'original de 1998 que je poste maintenant:

1998 CD

   To date I have not found another tire with this sticker. These stickers are often destroyed when removing the plastic protection. It is therefore a beautiful testimony of a fairly recent past, which I post with great pleasure for future collectors. But there is one question to be clarified: Why does this CD include the logos of the rights Bel Biem and SIAE and not only Bel Biem, as in 1998? As I wrote in the preamble, this is a way to distinguish these reissues. And if you’re curious take a look at the EMI logo on the 2003 CD and the original 1998 I’m posting upper.

   Ce produit est intéressant à plus d'un titre. Tout d'abord Ed hunter est un coffret assez étrange dans la discographie du groupe. Best of agrémenté d'un jeu vidéo, il est sorti seulement trois ans après Best of the beast, ce qui est très peu. Donc un best of de trop peut-être. Et surtout un jeu video pas très réussi non plus, sorte de fps copié sur les standards de l'époque, comme Quake (1996) ou Doom (1993), mais sans le talent et surtout les moyens. Même le format n'est pas réussi, avec une grosse boite finalement assez vide. Imaginez à la place un triple vinyle avec le DVD du jeu inclus ! 

   This product is interesting in more than one way. First of all Ed hunter is a rather strange box set in the discography of the band. Best of with a video game, it was released only three years after Best of the beast, which is very little. So a best of too much perhaps. And especially a video game not very successful either, kind of fps copied on the standards of the time, like Quake (1996) or Doom (1993), but without the talent and especially the means. Even the format is not successful, with a big box finally quite empty. Imagine instead a triple vinyl with the DVD of the game included ! 

   Ensuite, assez étrangement, il n'existe pas de tirage Europe commun. Je veux dire que EMI n'a pas fabriqué un seul tirage pour toute l'Europe, un pour les USA et deux pour le Japon. Les deux derniers sont réels, et figure dans ma page dédiée au titre, mais pour l'Europe il en existe 3: Un avec le texte Français pour l'avertissement médical, un avec ce même texte en Allemand et un dernier avec le logo SIAE pour l'Italie. Pour schématiser on pourrait dire qu'il existe un tirage pour la Francophonie et autre pour le reste de l'Europe. Pour être complet il y a aussi quatre autres tirages étrangers (Taïwan, Brésil, Canada et Mexique) et des CD single promos.

   Then, strangely enough, there is no common Europe draw. I mean, EMI didn’t make a single print for all of Europe, one for the USA and two for Japan. The last two are real, and appear in my page dedicated to the title, but for Europe there are 3: One with the French text for the medical warning, one with the same text in German and one with the SIAE logo for Italy. To summarise, we could say that there is a draw for the Francophonie and other for the rest of Europe. To be complete there are also four other prints foreign prints (Taiwan, Brazil, Canada and Mexico) and single CD promos.

   Mais ce qui est extraordinaire quand on collectionne c'est que l'on tombe toujours sur un produit à part, une pépite, une fake, en fonction de la chance. Pour ma part j'ai trouvé dans un salon un tirage avec texte Français mais destiné au marché Anglais, et plus particulièrement un tirage promo. Le voici:

   But what is extraordinary when you collect is that you always come across a separate product, a nugget, a fake, depending on luck. For my part I found in a show a print with French text but intended for the English market, and more particularly a promo print.

    Ce sticker promo je l'ai déjà vu sur divers produits. Il s'agit d'un sticker promotionnel typique pour le Royaume-Uni. La question est maintenant de savoir s'il est authentique. Le voici en détail:

   This promo sticker I have already seen on various products. This is a typical promotional sticker for the UK. The question now is whether it is genuine.

   Ma méthode est simple: j'utilise un compte fil (une loupe) pour examiner le papier et l'impression. Sur une reproduction de ce type de sticker le papier ne sera pas blanc, mais rempli de tout petit point de couleur. C'est ce qui arrive avec une imprimante domestique. Et de plus le papier sera lisse, voir brillant, avec des bords mal coupés. Ici le papier est cotonneux, ce qui indique une confection industrielle, d'un blanc immaculé et les bords sont francs. Le texte est noir avec une légère bavure de l'encre, à cause de la qualité du papier. Donc oui, ce sticker est officiel.

   My method is simple: I use a thread count (a magnifying glass) to examine paper and printing. On a reproduction of this type of sticker the paper will not be white, but filled with any small dot of color. This is what happens with a domestic printer. And moreover the paper will be smooth, even shiny, with poorly cut edges. Here the paper is cotton, which indicates an industrial confection, immaculate white and the edges are frank. The text is black with a slight smudge of ink, because of the quality of the paper. So yes, this sticker is official.

   Une fois ce point réglé, il amène une seconde question: A-t-il été collé dessus en 1999 par EMI ou plus récemment par un tiers qui posséderait un stock de vieux stickers officiels ? Je ne peux pas répondre à cette interrogation et je suis obligé de prendre le risque de considérer que oui, il date bien de 1999. Et donc qu'il s'agit bien d'un tirage promo Anglais. Je suis d'accord que l'on peut l'interpréter autrement mais, sans être naïf, un collectionneur doit examiner le produit qu'il a en main, voir les détails, les anomalies éventuelles, les preuves, et ensuite prendre position. C'est ce que j'ai toujours fait.

   Once this point is settled, it brings a second question: Was it glued on in 1999 by EMI or more recently by a third party who would have a stock of old official stickers? I cannot answer this question and I am obliged to take the risk of considering that, yes, it dates from 1999. And so that it is indeed an English promo draw. I agree that it can be interpreted differently but, without being naive, a collector must examine the product he has in hand, see the details, any anomalies, the evidence, and then take a stand. That’s what I’ve always done.

   Dernier CD de la série des Rainmaker. Je vous aurais présenté tous les CD que je possède avec celui-ci, sans compter ceux que j'avais déjà auparavant. C'est le tirage Europe, 2 titres, avec boitier single classique.

   Last CD of the Rainmaker series. I would have shown you all the CDs I have with this one, not counting the ones I had before. This is the Europe print, 2 titles, with classic single case.

   Sa référence est EMI 7243 55352 4 0, reportée dans le code barre qui comme tous ce type de CD single se trouve sur la tranche extrême, celle qui sera opposée au visuel une fois la pochette placée dans le boitier cristal. Ce code barre est accompagné du célèbre copy controlled:

   Its reference is EMI 7243 55352 4 0, reported in the bar code which like all this type of single CD is on the extreme edge, the one that will be opposite to the visual once the cover is placed in the crystal case. This barcode is accompanied by the famous copy controlled.

   Et comme cela ne suffisait pas pour EMI, un sticker copy controlled a été rajouté sur le boitier cristal, de façon a être aussi visible sur le visuel de la pochette ! Paranoïa ou zèle, je ne sais pas quoi en penser, surtout lorsqu'avec le recul on connait le devenir de ce système abandonné en 2006:

   And as it was not enough for EMI, a copy controlled sticker was added on the crystal case, so to be also visible on the artwork of the cover! Paranoia or zeal, I do not know what to think about it, especially when we look back on the future of this system abandoned in 2006.

   Le CD est lui un nouveau tirage différent des autres avec la référence imprimée dessus, et bien entendu seulement 2 titres et non plus 3. EMI Uden a tourné à plein régime pour produire autant de CD différents !

   The CD is a new print different from the others with the reference printed on it, and of course only 2 titles and no longer 3. EMI Uden turned at full speed to produce so many different CDs !

   Rien de plus à dire sur ce tirage. Je vous propose donc une photo de famille des CD de Rainmaker que je possède. Il ne me manque que le tirage Canadien, qui est en fait un import Europe du CD avec poster et sans copy controlled (!) et un sticker jaune labélisé EMI Canada:

   Nothing more to say about this print. So I offer a family photo of Rainmaker CDs that I own. I only need the Canadian print, which is actually a Europe import of the CD with poster and without copy controlled (!) and a yellow sticker labeled EMI Canada.

      Avant dernier CD pour cette série, ce tirage est assez identique à un autre. Voyons cela en détail. Sa référence est EMI CDEM 633. Au dos du boitier on retrouve un cartouche avec le code barre 7243 5 53480 2 9. Ce CD pour l'Europe comportait 3 titres:

   Before the last CD for this series, this print is quite identical to another one. Let’s look at this in detail. Its reference is EMI CDEM 633. On the back of the case is a cartridge with bar code 7243 5 53480 2 9. This CD for Europe had 3 tracks.

   Ce tirage comprend aussi un poster, et assez rapidement je me rends compte qu'il existe un autre CD Europe avec 3 titres qui lui ressemble bougrement. Voyons voir ce qui a justifié ces deux tirages.

   This print also includes a poster, and quite quickly I realize that there is another CD Europe with 3 tracks that looks like it. Let’s see what justified these two draws.

   Dans la description du produit de ce jour, j'ai indiqué qu'il portait la référence CDEM 633. Il se trouve que le second produit ne comporte lui aucune référence à part le code barre. Ce code barre est 7243 5 53524 2 2. Voici le scan du dos du boitier:

   In today’s product description, I indicated that it was CDEM 633. It turns out that the second product has no reference to it except the bar code. This barcode is 7243 5 53524 2 2. Here is the scan of the back of the case upper.

   Immédiatement on peut constater qu'outre le code barre, la grande différence est le gros cartouche sur le copy controlled. Deux produits, même titres, références différentes, mais juste une protection anti-copie pour l'un et absente pour l'autre. Pourquoi ? Aucune explication. On sait que Dance of death a été retiré plus tard sans copy controlled, mais je n'ai pas d'indice qui me permettent de dire que ce single a fait l'objet d'un retirage ultérieur. La matrix est la même et le groupe n'a pas pour habitude de retirer les anciens singles.

   Immediately we can see that besides the bar code, the big difference is the large cartridge on the copy controlled. Two products, same titles, different references, but just a copy protection for one and absent for the other. Why? No explanation. We know that Dance of death was later removed without copy controlled, but I have no clue that allow me to say that this single was the subject of a later removal. The matrix is the same and the band doesn’t usually remove old singles.

   Il existe donc deux tirages Europe pour ce 3 titres. Et au niveau du CD, quelles sont les différences ? Les voici:

   So there are two European prints for this song. And on the CD, what are the differences? Here they are upper.

   On note que la référence CDEM 633 figure sur le premier CD, pas sur le second. Les codes barres sont aussi différents. Et le gros logo Copy controlled se voit sur le second.

   Note that CDEM 633 is on the first CD, not the second CD. Bar codes are also different. And the big Copy controlled logo is on the second one.

   Même les posters ont droits a des modifications. Sur le scan posté plus haut la référence CDEM 633 a été imprimée, pas sur le poster ci-dessous:

   Par contre je ne sais pas si le tirage copy controlled avait un sticker rouge sur la boitier, comme pour le CDEM 633 tel que celui-ci. Peut-être que ce sticker a été enlevé sur mon exemplaire.

   En 2003 EMI a donc mis en vente deux produits musicalement identiques, mais avec des références différentes, principalement à cause de cette protection anti-copie. C'est assez étrange avec le recul mais cela nous permet, à nous les collectionneurs, de profiter de ces tirages particuliers et de nous replonger ans une époque bénie où le label était capable de mettre en vente 7 tirages différents pour un single...

   In 2003 EMI put on sale two products musically identical, but with different references, mainly because of this anti-copy protection. It’s quite strange in retrospect but it allows us collectors to enjoy these particular prints and to dive back into a blessed time when the label was able to put on sale 7 different prints for a single...

   Il n'existe pas beaucoup de CD single qui ont été vendus sous pochette carton. Le premier a été Hallowed be thy name en 1993 et le denier a été justement celui que je vous présente, Rainmaker, en 2003. Je ne parle pas des CDs promo, qui ont été très nombreux et, contrairement à ceux précités en début, ne sont pas vendus dans le commerce. De même j'oublie volontairement The number of the beast et The trooper en 2005, qui ne provenaient pas d'un album.

   There are not many single CDs that have been sold under cardboard cover. The first was Hallowed be thy name in 1993 and the last was the one I am presenting to you, Rainmaker, in 2003. I am not talking about promo CDs, which were very numerous and, unlike the ones mentioned at the beginning, are not sold commercially. Ce produit ne comporte que deux titres, comme le 45 tours bleu dont il est justement le petit frère. La mention copy controlled est bien visible, prenant même une grande partie du bas du carton. On la retrouve aussi sous forme de sticker sur le devant. Ce système était tellement peu efficace qu'il a été vite abandonné.

   Cette fois je ne vous demande pas votre avis sur la garantie que ce produit est officiel. Il l'est. Il s'agit du tirage promo Japonais de Rainmaker. Vendu en 2004 par EMI Toshiba, il complète parfaitement ma collection sur ce titre. Je possède déjà le tirage non promo et j'ai probablement déjà écrit un article dessus pour le décrire, mais je ne sais plus quand. On reprend donc...

   Ces dates figurent aux deux endroits: au dos du boiter et sur l'obi. La date du 28 janvier 2004 est imprimée a deux reprises. Cela signifie que la date de sortie et de mise en vente est la même. Ou qu'il n'y a pas eu de réédition. Sur les albums vous pourrez voir la date initiale de sortie, et la date de réédition. Seconde information sur ce dos de boitier, le sticker promo Japonais. Je vous ai déjà alerté sur des faux CD promo Japonais vendus sur ebay, surtout en provenance d'Israel ou d'Italie. Dans les pages dédiées je vous explique comment les identifier. Là il n'y a aucun souci, le papier est bien blanc et les bords nets.

   These dates appear in two places: on the back of the box and on the obi. The date of January 28, 2004 is printed twice. This means that the release and sale date is the same. Or that there was no reissue. On the albums you can see the initial release date, and the reissue date. Second information on this case back, the Japanese promo sticker. I’ve already alerted you to fake Japanese promo CDs sold on ebay, especially from Israel or Italy. In the dedicated pages I explain how to identify them. There is no problem, the paper is white and the edges clean.

   L'obi est très colorée, avec un beau contraste entre le bleu, le noir et le rouge. La date de fin d'offre à prix réduit est fixée au 27 juillet 2004. Comme je vous l'ai déjà expliqué les CD japonais sont vendus moins chers pendant un certain temps (6 mois en général) et cela est indiqué sur l'obi. On peut comparer cela a des prix réduits à la Fnac, mais sur un délai plus court.

  The obi is very colorful, with a beautiful contrast between blue, black and red. The end date of the offer at a reduced price is fixed on July 27, 2004. As I already explained, Japanese CDs are sold cheaper for a certain time (6 months in general) and this is indicated on the obi. We can compare this to reduced prices at the Fnac, but on a shorter time.

   Et enfin le CD. Il comporte la mention de promotion en son centre, tout autour du rond central. Là aussi c'est un bon moyen de détecter des faux en observant la qualité de l'impression et l'alignement des lettres. Comme toujours la matrix au dos reprend la référence.

   And finally the CD. It includes the mention of promotion in its center, all around the central circle. Here again it is a good way to detect false by observing the quality of the printing and the alignment of the letters. As always the matrix on the back resumes the reference.

Régulièrement je tente de combler des vides dans ma collection, sur un titre complet. Autant le faire sur un single récent, c'est moins long et onéreux. Débutons par un tirage promo sous forme de CDr.

   I hope you like Rainmaker, this 2003 single. Because I’m going to show you 6 different prints of this title in the next articles. Regularly I try to fill gaps in my collection, on a complete title. You might as well do it on a recent single, it’s less time-consuming and expensive.

   Pas de référence donc, mais une couverture blanche très simple. Alors oui je sais, il existe un CD single officiel et l'éternelle question est toujours: pourquoi avoir créé ce CDr non officiel ? Ma réponse sera toujours la même; soit c'est un fake, soit c'est vrai et pour un usage interne.

   No reference, but a very simple white cover. So yes I know, there is an official single CD and the eternal question is always: why did you create this unofficial CDr ? My answer will always be the same; either it’s a fake or it’s true and for internal use.

   De retour du Hellfest 2023 je poste quelques photos du concert du 17 juin. Je ne vais pas détailler le déroulement du show, que j'ai trouvé très bien. Je vais juste vous donner quelques impressions personnelles et celles recueillies auprès d'amis qui ne sont pas des fans du groupe.

   Back from Hellfest 2023 I post some pictures of the concert on June 17. I will not detail the progress of the show, which I found very well. I will just give you some personal impressions and those gathered from friends who are not fans of the band.

   Connaissant la set list je savais que ce show serait composé de 40% de titres de Somewhere in time, de 40% de Senjutsu et de 20% de titres phares. J'ai donc retrouvé avec plaisir plus chansons de 1986. J'ai enfin compris le rapport entre Somewhere in time et cette tournée: un prétexte à voyager dans le temps, qui est le thème de cet album. C'est donc un parti pris risqué. On en reparlera.

   Knowing the set list I knew that this show would be composed of 40% Somewhere in time titles, 40% Senjutsu and 20% flagship titles. So I found with pleasure more songs of 1986. I finally understood the connection between Somewhere in time and this tour: a pretext to travel in time, which is the theme of this album. So it’s a risky bias. We’ll talk about it again.

   Le décorum est assez simple, avec la même organisation de scène avec la structure en U inversé. Nico est toujours au centre, limite caché. Les différents tableaux dessinés représentant les titres défilent. Sobre et simple. Et à part deux effigies géantes et une tête gonflable d'Eddie, il n'y a aucune surprise. Au final les décors sont moins recherchés que lors de la tournée précédente.

   The decorum is quite simple, with the same stage organization with the inverted U structure. Nico is always in the center, hidden limit. The various drawn tables representing the titles scroll. Simple and simple. And aside from two giant effigies and an inflatable head of Eddie, there are no surprises. In the end the sets are less sought after than during the previous tour.

   Bruce est beaucoup moins mobile aussi. Steve, Dave et Adrian assurent, tandis que Janick est (enfin) sobre. Il ne fait presque pas tournoyer sa guitare !

   Bruce is a lot less mobile too. Steve, Dave and Adrian are good, while Janick is (finally) sober. He barely spins his guitar!

   Mon avis personnel est que ce show était très sympa sur le fait d'écouter des titres de 1986 et ceux du dernier album. Death of the celts passe mieux en concert que je le redoutais. J'ai trouvé Nico très fatigué à la fin du show. Au final je trouve que cette tournée se fait à l'économie en terme de décor et que le groupe assure sans en faire trop.

   My personal opinion is that this show was very nice about listening to songs from 1986 and those of the last album. Death of the celts is better in concert than I feared. I found Nico very tired at the end of the show. In the end I find that this tour is done to the economy in terms of decor and that the band does without doing too much.

   Et maintenant les avis de mes amis présents, qui je le répète ne sont pas des fans: trop de titres trop long, déçu par les décors moins recherchés qu'en 2018 (le spitfire !!), beaucoup d'erreurs de Nico à la batterie, pas assez de hits, un grand groupe mais au final peu de surprise et pas assez de titres connus. Je n'ai pu que répondre que, effectivement, ce show n'est pas fait pour un festival !

   And now the reviews of my friends present, who I repeat are not fans: too many tracks too long, disappointed by the less sought after scenery than in 2018 (the spitfire!), many mistakes from Nico to the drums, not enough hits, a big band but in the end little surprise and not enough known tracks.    A quelques jours du concert du Hellfest je vous propose ce nouveau CDr promo pour Edward the great. Quelques détails sont intrigants. Tout d'abord les titres comme Bring your daughter...to the slaughter et Fear of the dark (live in Rio) ne sont pas écrits tels que sur le track listing du CD. En effet des pointillés sont insérés entre les deux parties sur le papier joint à ce CDr et cela ne figure pas sur le CD du commerce, et Fear of the dark est Live in Rio et non pas Live at rock in Rio. Si je veux fabriquer un faux je recopie intégralement le track listing du CD.

   A few days before the Hellfest concert I propose you this new CD promo for Edward the great. Some details are intriguing. First of all titles like Bring your daughter...to the slaughter and Fear of the dark (live in Rio) are not written as on the track listing of the CD. Indeed dotted lines are inserted between the two parts on the paper attached to this CDr and this is not on the commercial CD, and Fear of the dark is Live in Rio and not Live at rock in Rio. If I want to make a fake I copy the entire track listing of the CD.

   De même ce papier est imprimé en deux couleurs: noir pour le texte et bleu pour le logo EMI. Là aussi pourquoi se donner tant de travail pour un fake ? Pour le rendre plus crédible ? Le CD comporte lui aussi une modification dans le test avec un The greatest hits qui devient Greatest hits. Encore un détail mais cela en fait trois.

   Similarly this paper is printed in two colors: black for the text and blue for the EMI logo. Again, why give yourself so much work for a fake? To make it more credible? The CD also includes a modification in the test with a The greatest hits which becomes Greatest hits. One more detail but that makes three.

   Cet article sera très court car s'agissant d'un CDr j'ai expliqué lors du précédent ce que j'en pensais et comment je faisais pour les acheter. Celui-ci est pour Out of the silent planet et je l'ai acheté à un vendeur qui vendait également des promos officiels et surtout je ne l'ai pas revu 10 fois sur son compte.    Pas d'article sur un produit mais un petit billet sur le début de la nouvelle tournée du groupe qui passera, pour la France, par Clisson le 17 juin. Le premier concert à eu lieu hier et la set list a été dévoilée. Cette tournée est donc quasi entièrement consacrée aux albums Senjutsu et Somewhere in time.

   Le groupe ne pouvait pas reprendre les mêmes titres que lors de la tournée précédente, et c'est toujours un partie pris que de composer une set list orientée sur un thème, en l’occurrence le passé. On avait compris que l'album Somewhere in time serait à l'honneur, ce qui est assez étonnant l'année des 40 ans de Piece of mind. Mais pourquoi pas. C'est un album qui a été décrié lors de sa sortie pour ses parties de claviers mais qui a depuis retrouvé ses fans grâce à d'excellents titres.

Venons donc à cette set list qui figure sur le site du groupe, les nombreuses videos sur you tube et donc des visuels ont été diffusés sur Facebook en fin de journée hier: Il y aura donc 5 titres de Somewhere in time dont, pour la première fois en live Alexander the great. A noter que le show débute par Caught somewhere in time, single très sympa mais peu connu des non fan. Je pense notamment aux show qui seront donnés lors des festivals.

   Viennent ensuite 1 titre d'Iron Maiden, 1 titre de The number of the beast, 1 titre de Piece of mind, 1 titre de Seventh son of a seventh son et 1 titre de Fear of the dark. On peut noter, et je m'en plains personnellement, l'absence de Powerslave dans ce retour vers le passé.

   Tous les autres titres, soit 5, seront issus de Senjutsu. Et là je note ce qui est pour moi le plus gros écueil de ce show: Que vient faire Death of the Celts dans cette set list ?

   Ce titre est très long et c'est pour moi le plus faible de Senjutsu. Pourquoi ne pas l'avoir remplacé par deux titres courts et directs, tels Aces high ou même un titre de Killers puisque lui aussi est oublié. Nous aurions eu un réel mixte entre passé et présent. Un hommage aux premiers albums et une découverte live pour quelques titres de Senjustu, comme Hell on earth.

   A part le point faible de Death of the Celts, je suis impatient de découvrir les titres live, certains jamais joués et d'autres joués seulement durant la tournée initiale de Somewhere in time. D'autant plus que les effets visuels ont l'air sympas, ainsi que les personnages animés sur scène. Rendez-vous le 17 juin à Clisson pour vivre cela !

   No article about a product but a small post about the start of the new tour of the band which will be, for France, by Clisson on June 17. The first concert took place yesterday and the set list was unveiled. This tour is almost entirely devoted to the albums Senjutsu and Somewhere in time.

   The band could not repeat the same tracks as during the previous tour, and it is always a part taken to compose a set list oriented on a theme, in this case the past. We understood that the album Somewhere in time would be in the spotlight, which is quite surprising the year of the 40 years of Piece of mind. But why not. It is an album that was decried during its release for its parts of keyboards but that has since found its fans thanks to excellent tracks.

   So let’s come to this set list that appears on the site of the band, the many videos on you tube and therefore visuals were broadcast on Facebook at the end of the day yesterday: There will be 5 tracks of Somewhere in time including, for the first time live Alexander the great. Note that the show starts with Caught somewhere in time, a very nice single but little known by non fans. I am thinking in particular of the shows that will be given at the festivals.   

   Next comes 1 Iron Maiden title, 1 The number of the beast title, 1 Piece of mind title, 1 Seventh son of a seventh son and 1 Fear of the dark title. We can note, and I personally complain, the absence of Powerslave in this return to the past.

   All other titles, 5, will come from Senjutsu. And here I note what is for me the biggest pitfall of this show: What comes to do Death of the Celts in this set list ?

   This title is very long and it is for me the weakest of Senjutsu. Why not replace it with two short and direct titles, such as Aces high or even a Killers title since he too is forgotten. We would have had a real mix between past and present. A tribute to the first albums and a live discovery for some Senjustu titles, like Hell on earth.

   Apart from the weakness of Death of the Celts, I can’t wait to discover the live tracks, some never played and others played only during the initial tour of Somewhere in time. Especially since the visual effects look nice, as well as the animated characters on stage. See you on June 17 in Clisson to experience this!

   Cela faisait 6 ans que je n'avais pas écrit d'article sur Speed of light. Forcément, sorti en 2015 ce titre n'a pas eu beaucoup de tirage. Et je me suis ensuite focalisé sur The book of souls, puis le live, puis les autres et les manquants, etc. Du coup pas de temps à perdre avec ce titre que je considère comme mineur dans l'histoire du groupe. En effet nous ne sommes pas sur du Moonchild ou du Run to the hills. Pas le même niveau. Mais le collectionneur se doit de tenter de boucher des trous. C'est donc ce que j'ai fait dernièrement avec pas mal de CD promo.

   It’s been six years since I wrote an article on Speed of light. Obviously, released in 2015 this title didn’t have much circulation. And I then focused on The book of souls, then the live, then the others and the missing, etc. So no time to lose with this title that I consider as minor in the history of the band. Indeed we are not on Moonchild or Run to the hills. Not the same level. But the collector has to try to plug holes. So that’s what I did recently with a lot of promo CDs.

   J'ai donc acheté ce premier CD promo de Speed of light, par BMG. Il vient donc des USA. La première question qui vient à l'esprit est: est-ce un vrai ? En effet comme il y a de l'argent à ce faire, des faussaires créés des faux promos. Tout le problème est de décidé si le produit que l'on veut acheter est un vrai ou pas. Le premier réflexe est de considérer que tous CDr sont des fake. En effet pourquoi EMI, Warner ou BMG va s'embêter a diffuser des CDr alors qu'ils font fabriquer des CD avec pochette papier, carton ou plastique, qui sont considérés comme vrais ? J'ai déjà expliqué dans un autre article que ces labels diffusent des CD promos à des journalistes, mais qu'il existe des CDr internes, logiquement non diffusés. Et c'est là que consiste la question: Le CDr que je vois est-il pour un usage interne ou un fake ?

   So I bought this first promo CD of Speed of light, by BMG. So it comes from the USA. The first question that comes to mind is: is it a real one? Indeed as there is money to do this, forgers created fake promos. The whole problem is to decide whether the product you want to buy is real or not. The first reflex is to consider that all CDr are fake. Indeed why EMI, Warner or BMG will bother to distribute CDrs while they make CDs with paper, cardboard or plastic pouch, which are considered real? I already explained in another article that these labels distribute CD promos to journalists, but that there are internal CDs, logically not distributed. And that’s where the question comes in: Is the CDr I see for internal use or fake?

   Je n'ai pas de conseil miracle pour ne pas acheter un fake. Il y a toujours un risque. Mais pour ma part je me suis fixé une règle intangible: je n'achète des CD promos, notamment CDr, que si le vendeur me semble clean. C'est qui un vendeur clean ? Si vous voyez un CDr sur ebay ou discogs, et que le type en vend des brouettes, en double, triple ou quadruple, passez votre chemin. Ce n'est pas logique. Par contre si votre vendeur vend un ou deux CDr, parmi d'autres CD promos "classique", le risque est moindre. C'est comme cela que je "sens" le vendeur et ses produits, quitte a revenir sur ces produits mis en vente à plusieurs reprises, pour voir ce qu'il vend ensuite.

   I have no miracle advice not to buy a fake. There is always a risk. But for my part I have set an intangible rule: I only buy CDs promos, especially CDr, if the seller seems clean. Who’s a clean salesman? If you see a CDr on ebay or discogs, and the guy sells wheelbarrows, double, triple or quadruple, go your way. This is not logical. However, if your seller sells one or two CDs, among other "classic" CD promos, the risk is lower. This is how I "feel" the seller and his products, even going back to these products put on sale several times, to see what he sells next.

   Le premier CD est donc un tirage dit promo de Speed of light, par BMG. Il était vendu sans pochette papier ou autre complément. Et le second est un DVD dit promo par Warner Parlophone. Celui-ci comporte une pochette papier et surtout un sticker que je connais déjà car présent sur le tirage CD Européen. Il provient de Scream PR ou Scream promotions, une société Anglaise bien connue dans le milieu musical de la relation presse.

   The first CD is therefore a promo print of Speed of light, by BMG. It was sold without a paper pouch or other complement. And the second is a promo DVD by Warner Parlophone. This one has a paper pouch and especially a sticker that I already know because present on the European CD print. It comes from Scream PR or Scream promotions, a British company well known in the musical milieu of the press relations.

   J'ai retrouvé deux CD des First ten years qui trainaient en dehors du classement de mes CD et, faute de retrouver un article sur le sujet, j'ai décidé d'en écrire un. Pour tous les tirages des First ten years datent de 1990. C'est normal car effectivement les vinyles ont été vendus à partir du 12 février 1990, de même que les tirages CD. Ces éditions sont faciles à identifier car ils possèdent un voucher dedans, une sorte de bon d'échange pour obtenir gratuitement une boite afin de les ranger. Mais beaucoup ne possèdent plus ce voucher, car soit ils ont été perdus, soit ils ont été échangés justement !

   I found two CDs of the First ten years that were hanging out of the classification of my CDs and, for lack of finding an article on the subject, I decided to write one. For all the First ten years prints date from 1990. This is normal because vinyl was sold from February 12, 1990, as well as CD prints. These editions are easy to identify because they have a voucher in them, a kind of voucher to get a free box to store them. But many no longer have this voucher, because either they were lost or they were exchanged precisely !

   C'est mon cas car environ 50% de mes CD n'ont plus le voucher. Et naturellement, avec ou sans voucher, j'ai toujours considéré que ces CD dataient tous de 1990. C'est une erreur car certains datent de 1995 en fait ! Pourquoi ?

   This is my case because about 50% of my CDs no longer have the voucher. And naturally, with or without voucher, I always considered that these CDs all date from 1990. This is a mistake because some date back to 1995! Why ?

   Dans mes habitudes de collectionneurs j'ai celle de regarder tout: la pochette, le label, ma matrice, le CD, les logos, les inserts, es couleurs et même les stickers. Tous ces éléments contiennent souvent un indice qui permet de dater un tirage et donc de découvrir une partie de l'histoire du groupe. Pour cet article c'est l'IFPI qui va nous aider. Ce code, qui est gravé sur le CD, indiquer le nom de la société qui a fabriqué celui-ci. Il existe deux type de IFPI: un premier gravé sur le plastique, au centre, et un second imbriqué dans le cercle extérieur contenant la matrix. Pour simplifier un identifié l'usine de gravage et l'autre le master utilisé. C'est le premier qui ici nous intéresse.

   In my collecting habits I have the habit of looking at everything: the cover, the label, my matrix, the CD, the logos, the inserts, the colors and even the stickers. All these elements often contain a clue that allows to date a print and thus to discover part of the history of the group. For this section, the IFPI will help us. This code, which is engraved on the CD, indicate the name of the company that manufactured it. There are two types of IFPI: one engraved on the plastic in the centre and a second nested in the outer circle containing the matrix. To simplify one identified the burning plant and the other the master used. This is the first one that interests us here.

   J'ai fait express de mettre les deux CD en contiguë afin de monter que visuellement il n'y a aucune différence. Ni sur le feuillet, ni sur le dos d'ailleurs. Voici ce qui fait la différence. Sur le CD de droite on remarque un IFPI qui est 1404:

   Cet IFPI 1404 correspond à l'usine de EMI Swindon. On trouve cette information sur différents sites répertoriant ces IFPI. Et comme on peut le voir sur la photo la matrix est aussi EMI Swindon. Nous avons notre information mais pas la plus importante: depuis quand y-a-t-il des IFPI sur les CD ? Là aussi plusieurs sites évoquent ce point, notamment Discogs qui indique la période de septembre 1994 comme début de l'implantation des IFPI sur les CD pour lutter contre le piratage. On pouvait ainsi identifier visuellement un vrai CD d'un faux. Ce qui n'est plus vrai aujourd'hui car les Russes arrivent à falsifier ces IFPI. Mais revenons en septembre 1994. Si depuis fin 1994 tous les CD ont été fabriqués avec un IFPI, les tirages des First ten years possédant un IFPI ne peut donc pas dater de 1990. C'est d'une logique implacable et cela démontre l'existence d'un second tirage pour les CD.

   This IFPI 1404 corresponds to the EMI Swindon plant. This information can be found on various sites listing these IFPI. And as you can see in the picture the matrix is also EMI Swindon. We have our information but not the most important: since when are there IFIs on CDs? Here again, several sites mention this point, notably Discogs which indicates the period of September 1994 as the beginning of the implementation of IFPI on CDs to fight piracy. We could visually identify a real CD from a fake one. This is no longer true today because the Russians manage to falsify these IFIs. But let’s go back to September 1994. If since the end of 1994 all CDs have been manufactured with an IFPI, the prints of First ten years with an IFPI cannot therefore date from 1990. It is an implacable logic and it shows the existence of a second edition for CDs.

   Mais avant de comprendre pourquoi, il convient juste de revenir sur l'identification. Bien entendu il y a l'IFPI mais sur la photo de présentation de cet article on peut voir deux points intéressants. Le premier est le sticker rond sur le tirage de Flight of icarus. Ce sticker indiquait la présence du voucher dans le CD. Cela prouve que le boitier contenait un CD du premier tirage de 1990. Je mets contenait car il faut quand même vérifier l'absence de IFPI, à cause des échanges de CD. J'en parle souvent mais ayez toujours cela en tête. A part un tirage neuf et scellé, il y a toujours un risque qu'une partie de votre produit viennent d'un autre tirage. Cela est aussi valable pour les vinyles avec les échanges disque/pochette. De même la présence d'un voucher n'est pas un indice, car là aussi il peut avoir été échangé de boitier. Prenez toujours le temps de tout analyser. Le second point est l'insert EMI présent dans le second  tirage de Flight of icarus. Là aussi il peut venir d'un autre CD. Mais en regardant les titres décrits dessus on peut noter qu'ils datent entre 1991 et 1993 (Dive Dive Dive de Bruce Dickinson en 1991, Dezhumaniser de Black Sabbath en 1992 et Hocus pocus de Focus en 1993). En tout cas cet insert ne pouvait pas se trouver dans un tirage initial de 1990.

   But before we understand why, we just need to go back to identification. Of course there is the IFPI but on the photo of presentation of this article we can see two interesting points. The first is the round sticker on the Flight of icarus print. This sticker indicated the presence of the voucher in the CD. This proves that the case contained a CD of the first edition of 1990. I put in because we still have to check the absence of IFPI, because of the CD exchanges. I often talk about it but always have this in mind. Apart from a new and sealed print, there is always a risk that part of your product will come from another print run. This also applies to vinyls with disc/sleeve exchanges. Also the presence of a voucher is not a clue, because there too it can have been exchanged from case. Always take the time to analyze everything. The second point is the EMI insert present in the second edition of Flight of icarus. There also it can come from another CD. But looking at the titles described above we can notice that they date from 1991 to 1993 (Bruce Dickinson’s Dive Dive in 1991, Dezhumaniser of Black Sabbath in 1992 and Hocus pocus of Focus in 1993). In any case this insert could not have been in an initial print run of 1990.

   Maintenant il reste à comprendre l'intérêt d'un second tirage. Les First ten years ont été édités pour célébrer les 10 première années discographiques du groupe. Cela n'aurait pas eu de sens de les revendre en 1995. Sauf si une opération spéciale survenait alors. Et si cette opération avait été pour EMI la sortie de The X factor ? En effet à cet occasion EMI à mis en vente une série de double CD contenant les albums précédents et les singles sur un CD bonus. Singles identiques à ceux figurant sur les CD des First ten years. Quelle belle occasion pour alors vendre un peu plus de produit que de rééditer les 10 CD des first ten years ? Bien entendu je n'ai pa sce souvenir et je n'ai aucune documentation pour le prouver. C'est juste une hypothèse. Mais la réalité est bien qu'EMI a remis en vente, en 1995 ou plus tard, des CD des First ten years. Pour ma part j'indique 1995 comme date de mise en vente.

It’s just an assumption. But the reality is that EMI put back on sale, in 1995 or later, CDs of the First ten years. For my part, I indicate 1995 as the date of sale.

   Ce que j'ai écrit pour Flight of icarus et aussi valable pour Can I play with madness. Pour les First ten years je possède environ 50% de complet (1er et 2ème tirage) et le reste avec un manque. C'est assez compliqué de trouver les manques car il faut avoir accès au dos du CD. Je vous invite donc à vérifier votre collection, au risque d'avoir quelques surprises. Et à appliquer ce principe des IFPI à tous vos CD afin de voir s'ils sont d'avant ou d'après septembre 1994. Cela peut s'avérer intéressant pour des retirages des albums. Bien entendu il y aura toujours des exceptions ou des variantes. Cela restera un cadre général qu'il faudra compléter avec vos autres observations.

   Au moment de trouver un produit pour écrire cet article je n'ai pas hésité longtemps en tombant sur cette photo de The X factor, tirage Argentin, trouvé en octobre 2022. Je commence à avoir une certaine nostalgie pour cet album, tant décrié et détesté à l'époque, qui est réhabilité à sa juste valeur ne serait que par la présence de Blaze. Je lui souhaite d'ailleurs un très bon rétablissement et je suis impatient d'écouter son futur live qui comprendra 3 titres de The X factor. Et comme une bonne nouvelle n'arrive jamais seule j'ai pu trouver la semaine dernière un double LP UK de The X factor, en tirage original de 1998. Je possède déjà le tirage "France" avec le sticker PM 262 et je cherchais un exemplaire sans. C'est chose faite. Mais revenons à ce CD.

   Les crédits sont complets, comme toujours avec les produits Sud-Américains et ils sont complétés sur le CD par le fameux "Industria Argentina" qui identifie formellement le pays d'origine. Comme j'écris cet article pendant le week-end du 8 mai, en dehors de chez moi, et que je n'ai pas le produit sous les yeux, je constate avec effroi que je n'ai pas noté sur sa fiche excel ni la matrix, ni l'Ifpi. Je compléterais dès que possible cet oubli sur la page du titre sur laquelle vous pouvez déjà retrouver les scans:

   Je vous ai annoncé une grande série de CD, la voici. Et je débute avec un CD Japonais de Killers, histoire de commencer fort. Sa référence est EMI Toshiba CP32-5107. Le référence anglaise du LP est aussi indiquée sur le CD: EMC 3357.

   Si vous collectionnez les produits Japonais vous savez qu'il existe deux tirages quasi identiques de ce premier CD Nippon. Celui que je vous présente est le second tirage. Le premier tirage porte la même référence. Mais la différence se situe au niveau de l'obi. Le premier tirage CD Japonais était vendu 3200 yens. Celui en photo valait seulement 3008 yens. But the difference is in the obi. The first Japanese CD edition sold 3200 yen. The one in the photo was worth only 3008 yen. Here are the two obi upper.

   Le prix de 3200 yens est imprimé en lisible et en blanc alors que celui de 3008 yens est très petit, moins lisible, et en noir. Ce n'est pas la seule différence. Sur le tirage initial le prix de 3200 yens figure aussi au dos du boitier. Mais il a disparu sur le retirage. Voici les deux scans:

   The price of 3200 yen is printed in legible and white while the price of 3008 yen is very small, less legible, and in black. This is not the only difference. On the initial draw the prize of 3200 yen also appears on the back of the case. But it disappeared on the removal. Here are the two scans upper.

   Les CD et l'insert noir et blanc sont eux, identiques. Le CD est dit avec triangle noir, caractéristique des premiers CD Japonais:

   The CDs and the black and white insert are identical. The CD is said to have a black triangle, characteristic of the first Japanese CDs.

   Pour le moment j'ai décrit les deux tirages et détaillés les différences. Mais à quelles dates les deux CD ont été vendus ? On sait que les premiers CD ont été vendus entre 1986 et 1987 selon les labels, sans savoir réellement, faut d'archives précises, la date exacte par label, par artiste et par titre. Il y a alors peu de moyens pour estimer l'année (je ne parle même pas du jour exact) de mise en vente d'un CD. Mais les Japonais sont les gens les plus organisés du monde. Et en général ils indiquent l'année, voir la date, sur leurs produits. Pour ce qui concerne le tirage initial on peut lire la date du 28 février 1987 au dos du boitier. Bien plus tard cette date (voir d'autres) figurera sur l'obi aussi. On connait donc l'année de sortie du tirage initial de Killers, et par extension celle des autres titres comme Iron Maiden ou The number of the beast.

   For now I have described the two prints and detailed the differences. But on what dates were the two CDs sold? We know that the first CDs were sold between 1986 and 1987 according to the labels, without really knowing, need accurate archives, the exact date by label, by artist and by title. There are then few ways to estimate the year (I’m not even talking about the exact day) of sale of a CD. But the Japanese are the most organized people in the world. And they usually indicate the year, see the date, on their products. The date of 28 February 1987 can be read on the back of the case. Much later this date (see others) will also appear on the obi. We know the year of release of the original Killers edition, and by extension that of other titles like Iron Maiden or The number of the beast.

   Un autre moyen est de voir ce qu'en dise les autres, notamment discogs. Pour les contributeurs le tirage initial date du 1er mars 1986. Je n'ai  aucune idée de comment ils en arrivent à cette conclusion, d'autant plus qu'ils indiquent la même date de réalisation que moi, le 28 février 1987. Sauf à penser que le H.3.1 placé devant signifie le 1er mars 1986, ce qui serait logique pour le 3 et le 1 (inversé en Anglais) mais le H ? J'ai tenté de faire des relations entre les lettres et les années, sans succès. Mais après tout pourquoi pas. Le premier tirage date soit de mars 1986, soit de février 1987. Et le second tirage ? Comme les suites de chiffres et lettres sont les mêmes au dos, et qu'aucune autre date n'est indiquée, j'ai moi-même estimé cette année à 1989. Pourquoi ? Le premier tirage date de 1986 ou 1987. Le troisième (TOCP 7601) de 1993. Le second tirage a donc été mis en vente entre 1989 et 1990. La communauté discogs indique la date de 1988 pour ce second tirage en précisant que la modification de prix des obis a eu lieu après avril 1989. Je suis preneur.

   Another way is to see what others say about it, especially discogs. For the contributors, the initial draw is March 1, 1986. I have no idea how they come to that conclusion, especially since they indicate the same date as I did, February 28, 1987. Except to think that the H.3.1 placed in front means 1 March 1986, which would be logical for the 3 and 1 (inverted in English) but the H? I tried to make connections between letters and years, without success. But after all, why not. The first draw is either March 1986 or February 1987. And the second draw? As the sequence of numbers and letters are the same on the back, and no other date is indicated, I myself estimated this year to 1989. Why? The first print was in 1986 or 1987. The third print (TOCP 7601) was in 1993. The second print went on sale between 1989 and 1990. The discogs community indicates the date of 1988 for this second edition, specifying that the change in obis prices took place after April 1989. I’ll take it from here.

Il s'agit pourtant bien du picture disc Anglais, mais en version import France. En tirage promotionnel...

   For this last article on vinyls (for the moment) I propose you to see an exceptional piece. You all know this 7 inch picture disc from Can I play with madness, but you’ve never seen this draw. Me neither before buying it in a flea market. It is however the English picture disc, but in import version France. In a promotional edition...

   Sa référence est EMI EMP 49. Il était vendu dans un emballage plastique avec un sticker Iron Maiden collé dessus. Si je compare avec le tirage que je possède déjà, cet emballage est différent. A gauche il s'agit du tirage que je possède déjà en import France, et à droite du promo:

   Its reference is EMI EMP 49. It was sold in a plastic package with an Iron Maiden sticker glued on it. If I compare with the print I already have, this packaging is different. On the left is the print I already have in import France, and on the right of the promo.

   On pourrait penser à un échange de pochette, mais le sticker de référence, avec le code barre, est bien le bon:

   Par contre le sticker doré de Pathé Marconi est bien identique aux deux tirages, à savoir PM 212:

   Si je résume. Je possède à ce jour trois tirages de Can I play with madness en version picture disc. Un Anglais, un Anglais en import France avec le sticker PM 212 et enfin celui que je vous présente ce jour. Ce qui est extraordinaire c'est que pour une fois le tampon promotionnel ne figure pas sur du papier mais sur du plastique ! Je n'ai jamais vu cela avant. C'est une première:

   If I summarize. I have to date three prints of Can I play with madness in picture disc version. An Englishman, an Englishman importing France with the sticker PM 212 and finally the one I present to you today. What is extraordinary is that for once the promotional stamp is not on paper but on plastic! I’ve never seen that before. It’s a first.

   Comment cela est arrivé ? On voit sur la photo que le tampon figure en partie sur le sticker, en partie sur le plastique de l'emballage et en partie sur le sticker du code barre. Cela est logique. Car même ainsi il n'est pas évident à voir. Je pense que l'employé en charge des promos chez Pathé Marconi a choisi le meilleur endroit pour placer le tampon embouti, surtout que ce n'est pas une pochette habituelle. Cela n'explique toujours pas pourquoi je n'en ai pas vu avant, depuis le temps que je collectionne. Là je n'ai pas d'explication. Sauf une. Contrairement au tirage avec pochette papier, les picture disc sont souvent vendus de nos jours sans la pochette plastique d'origine. L'acheteur initial l'a jeté, ou le propriétaire suivant. Peu d'intérêt si on ne collectionne pas. Et si vingt ou trente import UK ont été tamponnés par Pathé Marconi pour devenir des promos, combien ont conservé leur pochette plastique au fil du temps, des reventes, des dons, des pertes ?

   How did this happen? You can see in the picture that the stamp appears partly on the sticker, partly on the plastic of the packaging and partly on the sticker of the bar code. This makes sense. Because even so it is not obvious to see. I think that the employee in charge of promos at Pathé Marconi has chosen the best place to place the stamped stamp, especially since it is not a usual pouch. That still doesn’t explain why I haven’t seen one before, in the time I’ve been collecting. I don’t have an explanation. Except for one. In contrast to the print with paper pouch, picture discs are often sold nowadays without the original plastic pouch. The original buyer threw it away, or the next owner. Little interest if you don’t collect. And if twenty or thirty UK imports were stamped by Pathé Marconi to become promos, how many have kept their plastic pouch over time, resales, donations, losses ?

   Le sticker doré Pathé Marconi ne s'applique pas qu'aux tirages avec pochette carton. En effet je possède déjà plusieurs tirages imports avec ce sticker, comme celui-ci pour Wasted years en 45 tours, en picture disque découpé. Dans les années 80 certains tirages, surtout les pictures disc, étaient vendu sous une couverture plastique épais, elle-même placée dans une cellophane plus fin. La plupart du temps la cellophane initiale a été détruite, mais pas la pochette épaisse. Ce qui est le plus intéressant c'est que souvent le sticker a aussi été détruit, enlevé par l'acheteur qui ne pensait pas que 40 ans plus tard ce sticker intéresserait des collectionneurs...

   The golden sticker Pathé Marconi does not only apply to prints with cardboard pouch. Indeed I already have several import prints with this sticker, like this one for Wasted years in 7' inch, in picture disc cut. In the 80s some prints, especially the pictures disc, were sold under a thick plastic cover, itself placed in a finer cellophane. Most of the time the initial cellophane was destroyed, but not the thick pouch. What is most interesting is that often the sticker was also destroyed, removed by the buyer who did not think that 40 years later this sticker would interest collectors...

   Sa référence est EMI EMIP 5583, tirage Anglais. Il est donc strictement identique. seul le sticker différencie l'import France du tirage Anglais. Mais nous allons voir dans le prochain article que la pochette plastique peut aussi réserver une surprise...

   Suite des articles consacrés aux sitckers dorés Pathé Marconi. Nous avons un cas très intéressant avec ce tirage Allemand de Holy smoke. Sa référence est EMI 060 204028 6 et il s'agit du maxi 45 tours. Le sticker doré PM se trouve logiquement au dos, sous les références:

   Continuation of the articles dedicated to the Pathé Marconi gilded sitckers. We have a very interesting case with this German edition of Holy smoke. Its reference is EMI 060 204028 6 and it is the 12' inch. The golden sticker PM is logically on the back, under the references.

   Ce sticker doré PM 212 est, je le rappelle, une indication d'importation en France et indiquait le prix que le disquaire devait appliquer. Pour rappel aussi j'ai tenté de faire des rapprochements sur le prix/code, mais la difficulté est que le prix changeait mais le code oui, mais parfois non ! Un exemple: en septembre 1986 le maxi 45 tours import de Wasted years avait le code PM 132. Son prix devait être de 50 francs (c'est un exemple). Deux mois après l'import en maxi 45 tours de Stranger in a strange land comportait le code PM 212. Et devait aussi coûter 50 francs ! Et deux ans après Holy smoke a aussi le code PM 212 mais probablement, et c'est encore une estimation, ce disque devait valoir 52 francs. Vous avez, je pense, compris mon idée. Je sais que les disquaires recevaient un fax (pas de mail !) avec le code PM et le prix à appliquer à l'instant présent. Si un jour je peux trouver ce type de liste...

   This gold sticker PM 212 is, I recall, an indication of import in France and indicated the price that the record store had to apply. As a reminder also I tried to make reconciliations on the price/code, but the difficulty is that the price changed but the code yes, but sometimes no! An example: in September 1986 the 12' inch import of Wasted years had the code PM 132. Its price had to be 50 francs (this is an example).    Bien entendu si je m'arrête là cet article serait trop simple. Cela m'arrive souvent lorsque le produit est simple, mais pas ici. En effet je possède déjà un produit identique, Holy smoke Allemand en maxi 45 tours, import France, sticker PM 212. Sauf que ce sticker n'est pas doré mais blanc:

   Of course, if I stop there, this clause would be too simple. It often happens to me when the product is simple, but not here. Indeed I already have an identical product, Holy smoke German in 12' inch, import France, sticker PM 212. Except that this sticker is not gold but white.

   Au début j'ai pensé que ce sticker était doré à la base, et qu'il a pris le soleil, perdant son éclat. Cela arrive avec la couleur rouge lorsqu'elle est exposée au soleil. Mais on peut constater, en comparant les deux modèles, qu'ils sont différents. La typo n'est pas la même, la taille non plus, ni la forme globale:

   At first I thought that this sticker was golden at the base, and that it took the sun, losing its shine. This happens with the red color when it is exposed to the sun. But we can see, by comparing the two models, that they are different. The typo is not the same, nor the size, nor the overall shape.

   Pourquoi ces deux modèles de sticker PM ? Je ne sais pas. La seule explication plausible est un tirage pour la France fait en Allemagne avec des stickers différents posés là-bas, et des tirages Allemands envoyés en France et sur lesquels des stickers dorés ont été posés. Mais ce n'est qu'une hypothèse. 

   Why these two PM sticker patterns? I don’t know. The only plausible explanation is a print for France made in Germany with different stickers placed there, and German prints sent to France and on which golden stickers were placed. But that’s just a guess.

   Ce qui est une certitude c'est que ce tirage avec sticker doré réserve une dernière surprise. Si vous avez regardé attentivement la première photo, avec le visuel, vous avez probablement remarqué une forme en bas à gauche. Cette forme est en fait un tampon embouti promotionnel. Ce tampon est différent de celui habituellement utilisé. En effet à partir de 1988 Pathé Marconi a modifié son tampon promo. Le cercle est devenu un hexagone. De même le texte a été changé: "Disque gratuit, interdit à la vente" a été remplacé par Echantillon gratuit, ventre interdite":

   What is certain is that this print with golden sticker reserves one last surprise. If you looked carefully at the first photo, with the visual, you probably noticed a shape at the bottom left. This shape is actually a promotional stamped stamp. This stamp is different from the one usually used. Indeed from 1988 Pathé Marconi changed its promo stamp. The circle became a hexagon. Similarly the text has been changed: "Disque gratuit, interdit à la vente" has been replaced by "Echantillon gratuit, ventre interdite".

   L'emplacement de ce tampon n'est pas commun, car habituellement il se trouve en haut à droite. Mais selon la mise en place de la pochette par l'opérateur sous l'outil, il peut différer de place. Car cette opération était manuelle. Une pile de pochette vide était mise de côté par un responsable de Pathé Marconi et un opérateur tamponnait ces pochettes avec une presse comportant le tampon embouti. Bien entendu le nombre de pochette ainsi tamponnée était aléatoire et il n'est pas possible de savoir combien il existe de tirage promo pour un titre précis. Néanmoins, ce que je peux dire, c'est la première fois que je vois un tirage promo pour Holy smoke en maxi 45 tours en import Allemand. J'ai déjà vu le promo Français en 45 tours (que je ne possède pas d'ailleurs) mais jamais le maxi 45 tours. Pour terminer sur ce superbe produit je précise que le tampon hexagonal promo n'a été utilisé en France qu'entre 1988 et 1990, voir 1992 mais je n'en ai pas la certitude. En tout cas pas plus tard.

   The location of this buffer is not common, as it is usually located at the top right. But depending on the placement of the pouch by the operator under the tool, it may differ from place. Because this operation was manual. An empty pouch stack was set aside by a Pathé Marconi manager and an operator stamped the pouches with a press containing the stamped tampon. Of course the number of pouch so stamped was random and it is not possible to know how many promotional draws there are for a specific title. Nevertheless, what I can say is that this is the first time that I see a promotional draw for Holy smoke in 12' inch in German import. I’ve already seen the French promo in 7' inch (which I don’t own anyway) but never the 12' inch. To finish on this superb product I specify that the promo hexagonal stamp was only used in France between 1988 and 1990, see 1992 but I do not have the certainty. At least not later.

Titre: Out of the silent planet

   J'ai encore quelques maxi 45 tours avant de passer à des CD. Et je me suis dit que j'allais commencer cette série avec un titre de 2000. Car, et moi le premier, on chercher surtout des tirages anciens, des années 80, pour compléter sa collection. Mais parfois le hasard fait que l'on trouve des tirages récents sympas, comme ce Out of the silent planet. 

   I still have a few 12' before switching to CDs. And I thought I would start this series with a 2000 title. Because, and I the first, we are looking especially for old prints, of the 80s, to complete his collection. But sometimes chance makes that we find recent prints nice, like this Out of the silent planet.

   Pourtant je possède déjà ce tirage. Si vous regardez la page du titre, référence 12OUTEU1, vous verrez les scans relatifs à ce produit. J'en profite pour rappeler que tous mes produits sont visibles sur les pages des titres (Out of the silent planet est la page 081), classée par, en premier les cassettes, les LP et ensuite les CD. Ceci pour les albums. Pour les singles ce sera les cassettes, les 45 tours, les maxi 45 tours et les CD. Bien entendu en fonction des tirages existants pour chaque titre. Plus on va vers les années 2000, moins il y aura de cassettes et plus il y aura de CD. Et après vous trouverez le titre, résumé par trois ou quatre lettres, comme OUT pour Out of the silent planet, ou TNB pour The number of the beast. Et enfin le pays selon la codification internationale (GER pour Allemagne par exemple). Et pour terminer le rang dans ma collection (1, 2,3 etc) Cela donne pour le maxi 45 tours européen de Out of the silent planet dont je ne possède qu'un exemplaire: 12OUTEU1.

   Yet I already have this print. If you look at the title page, reference 12OUTEU1, you will see the scans related to this product. I take this opportunity to remind that all my products are visible on the pages of the titles (Out of the silent planet is page 081), classified by, first the cassettes, the LP and then the CDs. This for the albums. For the singles it will be the cassettes, the 7', the 12' and the CDs. Of course depending on the existing draws for each title. The closer we get to the 2000s, the fewer tapes and the more CDs. And then you’ll find the title, summarized by three or four letters, like OUT for Out of the silent planet, or TNB for The number of the beast. And finally the country according to the international codification (GER for Germany for example). And to finish the row in my collection (1, 2,3 etc) This gives for the European 12' laps of Out of the silent planet of which I have only one copy: 12OUTEU1.

   Et donc si je le possède déjà pourquoi j'en parle ? Car j'ai un contact qui est marchand professionnel sur Paris qui m'a trouvé plusieurs produits du groupe dont un Out of the silent planet neuf, encore emballé. Et en regardant au verso j'ai vu ceci:

    So if I already own it, why am I talking about it? Because I have a contact who is a professional merchant in Paris who found me several products of the group including an Out of the silent planet new, still packed. And looking at the back I saw as upper.

   Un beau sticker doré Pathe Marconi PM 262 figure sur ce produit. Cela indique que ce tirage a été vendu en France, probablement à la Fnac, en import Europe pour le distinguer des autres tirages Europe. Et je peux vous garantir qu'en 2000 il ne doit pas y avoir eu beaucoup de maxi 45 tours d'Out of the silent planet vendus avec ce sticker. Et encore moins existant car très souvent l'acheteur retirait ce sticker. Donc autant j'en trouve souvent avec ce sticker sur des tirages datant des années 85-90, autant c'est exceptionnel d'en voir un en 2000. Je ne sais pas quand ces stickers Pathé Marconi ont été définitivement été arrêtés.

   A beautiful golden sticker Pathe Marconi PM 262 appears on this product. This indicates that this print was sold in France, probably to the Fnac, in Europe import to distinguish it from other Europe prints. And I can guarantee you that in 2000 there must not have been many 12' of Out of the silent planet sold with this sticker. And even less existing because very often the buyer removed this sticker. So as much as I often find with this sticker on prints dating from the years 85-90, so much is exceptional to see one in 2000. I don’t know when these Pathé Marconi stickers were definitely arrested.

   Je vous ai promis un article sur des produits étranges, le voici ! J'ai remarqué sur ebay un vendeur Ukrainien qui met en vente des boites en bois contenant des cartes SD. Deux choix se posaient à moi: juste regarder en me disant que ce sont des produits non officiels, ce qui est vrai, ou en acheter pour voir et juger de la qualité de ces produits. J'ai choisi d'acheter et je peux ainsi vous donner mon avis.

   I promised you an article about strange products, here it is! I noticed on ebay a Ukrainian salesman selling wooden boxes containing SD cards. I had two choices: just look at them and tell me they are unofficial products, which is true, or buy them to see and judge the quality of those products. I chose to buy and I can give you my opinion.

   Ce vendeur propose donc trois produits différents (au 28 février 2023, date de cet article): un relatif à Senjutsu, un à Night of the dead, et un duo Book of souls et Book of souls live chapter. Commençons pas ce dernier. Afin de préserver le sticker recouvrant le duo je n'ai pas ouvert ce produit, me réservant cela pour les deux autres. Voici le recto et le verso:

   This seller therefore offers three different products (as of February 28, 2023, date of this article): one related to Senjutsu, one to Night of the dead, and a duo Book of souls and Book of souls live chapter. Let’s start with the latter. In order to preserve the sticker covering the duo I did not open this product, reserving this for the other two. Here is the front and back.

   L'aspect fini est joli, l'impression des textes est nette. Il y a deux références, soit SD-21058 et SD-21059, ce qui est logique pour deux titres proches. On note aussi que la marque Something special est indiquée sur les crédits. Je n'ai rien trouvé sur cette marque sur le net, probablement juste un nom pour faire bien !

   The finished appearance is pretty, the printing of the texts is clear. There are two references, SD-21058 and SD-21059, which makes sense for two similar titles. We also note that the Something special brand is indicated on the credits. I found nothing on this brand on the net, probably just a name to do well !

   Ouvrons maintenant le produit consacré à Night of the dead:

Now let’s open the product dedicated to Night of the Dead.

   Il s'agit d'un carré mesurant 10 cm de côté, en carton épais, collé sur un morceau de bois creusé. C'est réellement bien fait, limite usiné, en tout cas bien pensé. L'intérieur comporte une languette qu'il faut ouvrir via des pointillés pour dévoiler la carte CD et une surprise: une allumette ! En effet les concepteurs ont collé un sticker sur lequel il est écrit "burn after listening", invitant l'acheteur a brûler le contenant. Ou autre chose ? Quelque chose de spécial en tout cas:

   It is a square measuring 10 cm in length, made of thick cardboard, glued to a piece of carved wood. It’s really well done, machined limit, at least well thought out. The inside has a tab that you have to open with dots to reveal the CD card and a surprise: a match! Indeed the designers have pasted a sticker on which it is written "burn after listening", inviting the buyer to burn the container. Or something else? Something special anyway.

   Mais j'imagine que vous avez tous constaté qu'il y a un problème ! En effet le visuel intérieur et le texte est celui de Senjutsu ! Et si on observe bien la carte CD aussi ! Il y a aussi un autocollant sous cette carte et il reprend aussi le visuel de Senjutsu. C'est bête mais ce travail fort sympathique est ruiné par des étourderies: visuel d'un album de 2021 pour un produit de 2020, mélange de visuel des deux titres et surtout mauvaise carte SD dans le produit !

   But I imagine that you have all noticed that there is a problem! Indeed the interior visual and the text is that of Senjutsu! And if you look at the CD card too! There is also a sticker under this card and it also takes the visual of Senjutsu. It’s silly but this very nice work is ruined by mistakes: visual of a 2021 album for a 2020 product, mix of visual of the two tracks and especially bad SD card in the product !

   Regardons quand même cette carte SD. Elle contient les titres de Senjutsu au format Flac. J'ai quand même vérifié avec un bon antivirus avant de l'inséré de mon ordinateur, on n'est jamais assez prudent:

   Let’s look at this SD card anyway. It contains Senjutsu titles in Flac format. I still checked with a good antivirus before inserting my computer, one is never careful enough.

   Et la boite pour Senjutsu alors ? C'est exactement l'inverse. elle contient la carte de Night of the dead et des visuels de ce produit. Donc les auteurs ont tout simplement inversé sur leur chaine de montage les deux produits. En voici la preuve:

   And the box for Senjutsu then? It’s exactly the opposite. It contains the map of Night of the dead and the visuals of this product. So the authors simply reversed the two products on their assembly line. Here is the proof upper.

   Alors au final que valent ces produits en termes de collection ? Pas grand-chose car ce produit est plus sympathique que collectible. De prime abord attirant il ne s'agit au final que d'une carte SD, qui ne fera jamais la comparaison avec un CD ou un vinyle dans une collection. Et si l'aspect usiné était remarquable au premier abord, des erreurs dans la chaine de réalisation ont provoqué de fâcheux mélanges entre les titres. Je ne sais pas si cela est aussi valable pour le duo des book of souls. Alors est-ce que je vous conseille ces achats ? A vous de voir si vous êtes un collectionneur acharné, un curieux ou fan de ces boites. Ou si tout simplement vous êtes fascinés par cette allumette et qui, comme moi, vous vous interrogez encore sur sa fonction ?

   So in the end what are these products worth in terms of collection? Not much because this product is more friendly than collectible. At first sight attractive it is only an SD card, which will never compare with a CD or vinyl in a collection. And if the machined aspect was remarkable at first, errors in the production chain caused unfortunate mixtures between the titles. I don’t know if this also applies to the duo of book of souls. So I recommend these purchases? It’s up to you to see if you are a relentless collector, a curious or fan of these boxes. Or if you are simply fascinated by this match and who, like me, still wonder about its function?

   Le dernier article sur un maxi 45 tours de cette série sera encore consacré à Maiden Japan. Il s'agit cette fois d'un tirage officiel, venant d'Italie. Sa référence est EMI Italiana SpA 3C 050 07534:

   The last article on a 12 of this series will be devoted to Maiden Japan. This time it is an official draw, coming from Italy. Its reference is EMI Italiana SpA 3C 050 07534.

   La pochette est de type rigide, car de nombreux tirage existent avec des pochettes souples, du moins un papier moins épais. De même l'ouverture se fait par le haut, car là aussi il y a des variantes en fonction des pays. Une accroche visuelle figure sur la pochette, sous la forme d'un rond indiquant un prix spécial. Il ne s'agit pas d'un sticker mais bien d'une intégration dans la maquette:

   The cover is of rigid type, because many prints exist with soft cover, at least a less thick paper. Similarly, the opening is done from the top, because again there are variations depending on the country. A visual hook appears on the cover, in the form of a circle indicating a special price. This is not a sticker but an integration in the model.

   Au dos les crédits indiquent bien la provenance du produit:

   On the back the credits clearly indicate the origin of the product.

   Venons-en aux labels. Ils sont jaunes et typiques d'une production Italienne. La référence est soulignée d'un trait, le logo SIAE est visible, de même qu'un tampon à l'encre rouge. Ce tampon était rajouté manuellement sur la face A, ce qui devait entrainer un travail important et une main d’œuvre nombreuse pour une tache rébarbative ! La matrice est 07534 A, suivi de la date 28.10.81. Cette précision est importante car cela nous confirme que nous sommes en présence d'un tirage initial:

   Let’s come to labels. They are yellow and typical of an Italian production. The reference is underlined with a line, the SIAE logo is visible, as well as a stamp in red ink. This stamp was added manually on the A-side, which had to involve a lot of work and a large workforce for a daunting task! The matrix is 07534 A, followed by the date 28.10.81. This clarification is important because it confirms that we are dealing with an initial draw.

   Cette précision est importante pour les collectionneurs car, malgré ce que l'on peut penser, ces maxi 45 tours ont fait l'objet, dans de nombreux pays, de retirages plus ou moins facile à identifier. Pour l'Italie il en existe au moins deux, avec une variante au niveau de l'imprimeur (Pozzoli) et un retirage avec la référence 50 1075341. Pour la France j'ai identifié à ce jour 4 tirages différents. Ce sont ces détails (imprimeur ou matrice différente) qui nous aident dans nos recherches.

   This precision is important for collectors because, despite what one might think, these 12 rpm have been the object, in many countries, of withdrawals more or less easy to identify. For Italy there are at least two, with a variant at the printer level (Pozzoli) and a withdrawal with reference 50 1075341. For France I have identified 4 different prints so far. It is these details (printer or different matrix) that help us in our research.

   Cet article concerne un maxi 45 tours de Maiden Japan qui, comme sa belle pochette bleu l'indique, provient de Corée du Sud. Je commence à avoir pas mal de titre venant de ce pays, officiels ou non, comme celui-ci. Car c'est effectivement un fake.

   This article is about a Maiden Japan 45 rpm EP which, as its beautiful blue cover indicates, comes from South Korea. I’m starting to get a lot of titles from this country, official or not, like this one. Because it’s a fake.

   Sa référence est STEREOPHONIC RK 7. Ce nom particulier est bien un fabriquant de disque Sud-Coréen, qui œuvrait dans les années 90 voir un peu plus. Sa particularité est que STEREOPHONIC était spécialisé dans la vente de disque aux militaires Américains basés dans ce pays. Cela explique le pourquoi de la pochette reprise sur le modèle Américain. En effet à part des collectionneurs un Américain non fan ne va acheter qu'un tirage US, pas Français ou Espagnol. Donc autant viser juste !

   Its reference is STEREOPHONIC RK 7. This particular name is indeed a South Korean record manufacturer, who worked in the 90s or even more. Its particularity is that STEREOPHONIC was specialized in the sale of records to the American military based in this country. This explains the reason for the cover on the American model. Indeed apart from collectors an American not fan will only buy a US print, not French or Spanish. So better aim right!

   La pochette est donc bleue et reprise sur le Tirage Harvest MLP 15000 de 1981. On y retrouve les crédits de l'époque et le code barre. A savoir qu'il existe au moins un tirage avec une pochette d'une autre couleur: verte.

   The cover is blue and reproduced on the Harvest Print MLP 15000 of 1981. We find there the credits of the time and the bar code. Namely that there is at least one print with a pocket of another color: green.

   Venons en aux labels qui sont blancs et très laids ! Ils sont assez simples et découpés à la main avant collage sur le vinyle. La matrice est MLP 1 15000 A et 619 A. Ce dernier groupe est assez étrange car il ne correspond en rien aux références du tirage US. Peut-être une référence interne mais pourquoi ne pas avoir alors indiquer RK 7 ?

   Let’s come to labels that are white and very ugly! They are quite simple and hand-cut before gluing on vinyl. The matrix is MLP 1 15000 A and 619 A. This last group is rather strange because it does not correspond to the references of the US print. Maybe an internal reference but why not then indicate RK 7 ?

   Comme tous les fakes ils gardent une part de mystères (datation exacte notamment) qui sont encore plus compliqués a résoudre que pour les officiels faute d'information fiable.

   Like all fakes they keep a part of mysteries (exact dating in particular) that are even more complicated to solve than for officials for lack of reliable information.

   Cela faisait longtemps que je n'avais pas écrit d'article sur un maxi 45 tours et cela tombe bien car j'en ai acheté plusieurs lors d'un salon récent. Notamment ce tirage du single de The number of the beast. Et là aussi je n'avais pas écrit d'article sur un nouveau produit pour ce single depuis 3 ans !

   It’s been a long time since I wrote an article on a 12' and it’s a good thing because I bought several at a recent show. Especially this single of The number of the beast. And again I had not written an article on a new product for this single for 3 years !

   S'agissant d'un tirage Mexicain sa référence est EMI POP 601, mais plus précisément EMI Capitol de Mexico. A lire en deux parties: "EMI Capitol" d'un côté et "de Mexico" de l'autre. Cela figure dans les crédits au dos. Pour plus de simplicité on dira EMI POP 601:

   Being a Mexican print, its reference is EMI POP 601, but more precisely EMI Capitol de Mexico. Read in two parts: "EMI Capitol" on one side and "Mexico" on the other. This is in the credits on the back. For simplicity we will say EMI POP 601.

   La pochette comporte deux mentions spécifiques. La première indique que ce disque est pour les collectionneurs car il comporte un titre enregistré en public. La première mention est un rond rouge imprimé. Et la seconde est un texte imprimé en blanc vers le bas à gauche:

   The cover has two specific mentions. The first indicates that this disc is for collectors because it has a title recorded in public. The first entry is a red printed circle. And the second is a white text down left.

   Si on revient sur les crédits au dos le copyright indique la date de 1982, ce qui est logique car ce single est sorti le 26 avril 1982. Mais l'année réelle de sortie de ce produit est 1983. Cela nous est appris par deux indices. Le premier est sur le label, qui est jaune. Il y a les deux dates: 1982 et 1983. Bien entendu c'est la plus récente qui prévaut:

   If we return to the credits on the back the copyright indicates the date of 1982, which is logical because this single was released on April 26, 1982. But the actual year of release of this product is 1983. We know this from two clues. The first one is on the label, which is yellow. There are the two dates: 1982 and 1983. Of course, the most recent one prevails.

   Le second indice est après la matrice, qui est POP 601-1 pour la face A. A la suite on peut lire: 7 - X - 83. Je pense que cela signifie 7 octobre 1983.

   The second index is after the matrix, which is POP 601-1 for the A side. Then we can read: 7 - X - 83. I think that means 7 October 1983.

Titre: Fear of the dark

Année: 1992

Pays: Corée du sud

   Il n'existe qu'une trentaine de tirage différent pour Fear of the dark, dont ce tirage Sud-Coréen. Cala est normal car la mondialisation a débuté et au lieu d'y avoir un tirage par pays il y en a déjà beaucoup moins. Ensuite le groupe sortait d'un No prayer for the dying décevant, et avait probablement perdu du crédit auprès des fans. Et enfin le CD était devenu roi, coutant moins cher et étant plus pratique à l'écoute. Ce constat sera valable, voir s'aggravera définitivement par la suite pour ce qui concerne le nombre de tirage vinyle.

   There are only about thirty different prints for Fear of the dark, including this South Korean print. Cala is normal because globalization has begun and instead of there being one draw per country there is already much less. Then the band came out of a disappointing No prayer for the dying, and probably lost some credit with the fans. And finally the CD had become king, costing less and being more convenient to listen to. This observation will be valid, see will worsen definitively thereafter for the number of vinyl prints.

   Sa référence est EMI Kemongsa EKPL 0230-231, mais avec également la référence Anglaise EMD 1032. A noté que Kemongsa n'a pas fabriqué ce produit mais qu'il détenait la licence d'EMI pour le faire. Sa fabrication a été déléguée à JEIL Records, une société possédant une usine. Cela est indiqué dans les crédits au dos de la pochette:

Its reference is EMI Kemongsa EKPL 0230-231, but also with the English reference EMD 1032. Noted that Kemongsa did not manufacture this product but was licensed by EMI to do so. Its production was delegated to JEIL Records, a company with a factory. This is indicated in the credits on the back of the cover.

   Il y a un bel insert noir, blanc et jaune dans ce tirage. Comme souvent avec les pays asiatiques cet insert reprend une grande partie de l'histoire du groupe ce qui est toujours étonnant car ces vinyles s'adressaient surtout aux fans. 

   There is a beautiful black, white and yellow insert in this print. As often with Asian countries this insert takes up a large part of the history of the band which is always surprising because these vinyls were mainly for fans.

   Concernant les deux disques ils figurent dans une belle pochette cristal imprimée avec les différents logos du groupe EMI. Les labels sont du même type que le tirage Europe. La matrice de la face A est EKPL 0230 A:
