Titre: Fear of the dark

Année: 1992

   Il n'existe qu'une trentaine de tirage différent pour Fear of the dark, dont ce tirage Sud-Coréen. Cala est normal car la mondialisation a débuté et au lieu d'y avoir un tirage par pays il y en a déjà beaucoup moins. Ensuite le groupe sortait d'un No prayer for the dying décevant, et avait probablement perdu du crédit auprès des fans. Et enfin le CD était devenu roi, coutant moins cher et étant plus pratique à l'écoute. Ce constat sera valable, voir s'aggravera définitivement par la suite pour ce qui concerne le nombre de tirage vinyle.

   There are only about thirty different prints for Fear of the dark, including this South Korean print. Cala is normal because globalization has begun and instead of there being one draw per country there is already much less. Then the band came out of a disappointing No prayer for the dying, and probably lost some credit with the fans. And finally the CD had become king, costing less and being more convenient to listen to. This observation will be valid, see will worsen definitively thereafter for the number of vinyl prints.

   Sa référence est EMI Kemongsa EKPL 0230-231, mais avec également la référence Anglaise EMD 1032. A noté que Kemongsa n'a pas fabriqué ce produit mais qu'il détenait la licence d'EMI pour le faire. Sa fabrication a été déléguée à JEIL Records, une société possédant une usine. Cela est indiqué dans les crédits au dos de la pochette:

Its reference is EMI Kemongsa EKPL 0230-231, but also with the English reference EMD 1032. Noted that Kemongsa did not manufacture this product but was licensed by EMI to do so. Its production was delegated to JEIL Records, a company with a factory. This is indicated in the credits on the back of the cover.

   Il y a un bel insert noir, blanc et jaune dans ce tirage. Comme souvent avec les pays asiatiques cet insert reprend une grande partie de l'histoire du groupe ce qui est toujours étonnant car ces vinyles s'adressaient surtout aux fans. 

   There is a beautiful black, white and yellow insert in this print. As often with Asian countries this insert takes up a large part of the history of the band which is always surprising because these vinyls were mainly for fans.

   Concernant les deux disques ils figurent dans une belle pochette cristal imprimée avec les différents logos du groupe EMI. Les labels sont du même type que le tirage Europe. La matrice de la face A est EKPL 0230 A:

   Encore un très beau produit exotique qui ira très bien dans ma collection !  Another very beautiful exotic product that will go very well in my collection !

Titre: Live after death

   Pour débuter cette nouvelle année je vous propose un article sur un tirage du meilleur live de notre groupe préféré, voir de tous les temps mais chaque fan d'un groupe vous dira que le premier live est le meilleur de tous. Prenons par exemple Tokyo tapes des Scorpions. C'est pour moi le meilleur live de Scorpions mais il n'a plus grand chose à voir avec World wide live. Pour les autres ce sera aussi Made in Japan de Deep purple ou No Sleep ’Til Hammersmith de Motörhead. Probablement aussi que pour moi ce live à une saveur particulière car j'ai assisté au concert de Paris en 1984 (le 29 octobre).

   To start this new year I propose you an article about a print of the best live of our favorite band, even of all time but each fan of a band will tell you that the first live is the best of all. Take for example Tokyo tapes of Scorpions. It is for me the best live of Scorpions but it has little more to do with World wide live. For the others it will also be Made in Japan by Deep purple or No Sleep ’Til Hammersmith by Motörhead. Probably also for me this live has a special flavor because I attended the Paris concert in 1984 (October 29).

   Ce tirage de Live after death a fait du chemin car il provient de Nouvelle-Zélande. Je l'ai acheté dans un salon du disque à Auvers sur Oise. Sa référence est EMI EMC 267. Il y a un code, ici 24, que je pense devant correspondre à un code de prix:

   This Live after death print has come a long way because it comes from New Zealand. I bought it in a record salon in Auvers on Oise. Its reference is EMI EMC 267. There is a code here, 24, which I think must correspond to a price code.

   Les crédits indiquent que ce produit a été fabriqué et distribué par EMI Music group à Sidney (pour l'Australie) et Lower Hutt (pour la Nouvelle-Zélande). Je ne possède pas le tirage Australien et je ne sais pas si ces crédits sont identiques pour les deux, car la référence est en tout cas différente (EMC 200426 pour l'Australie):

   Credits indicate that this product was manufactured and distributed by EMI Music group in Sidney (for Australia) and Lower Hutt (for New Zealand). I do not have the Australian drawing and I do not know if these credits are identical for both, because the reference is in any case different (EMC 200426 for Australia).

   Concernant les labels ils sont classiques, avec le visuel commun à tous les tirages à savoir la pierre tombale. Cette fois-ci les crédits indiquent que ce produit a été fabriqué en Nouvelle-Zélande (NZ). La matrice est E2404261A F1 pour la face A du disque 1:

   Regarding the labels they are classic, with the visual common to all prints namely the headstone. This time the credits indicate that this product was manufactured in New Zealand (NZ). The matrix is E2404261A F1 for the A side of disk 1.

   La couverture est bien entendue ouvrante pour contenir les deux disques. Je n'ai pas l'insert photos et je ne sais pas si initialement il y en a eu un. Je n'ai pas la confirmation que 100% des tirages dans le monde ont été fabriqués avec un insert photos. Si vous avez cette information je suis preneur.

   The cover is of course opening to contain both discs. I don’t have the photo insert and I don’t know if there was one initially. I do not have confirmation that 100% of the prints in the world were made with a photo insert. If you have that information, I’ll take it.

   Parfois dans la vie il y a des moments incroyables. Comme lorsqu'un inconnu vous contacte sur votre blog pour vous dire qu'il possède une cassette d'Iron Maiden et qu'il pense qu'elle est spéciale car il n'en a jamais vue une autre pareil. Je suis souvent contacté sur mon blog pour divers motifs. Me demander un conseil, un prix, m'encourager ou me féliciter. Mais cette fois-ci un lecteur me demande si je connais cette cassette et surtout il me propose de me la donner !

   Sometimes in life there are incredible moments. Like when a stranger contacts you on your blog to tell you that he owns an Iron Maiden tape and thinks it’s special because he’s never seen one like it. I am often contacted on my blog for various reasons. Ask me for advice, a prize, encourage me or congratulate me. But this time a player asks me if I know this tape and especially he offers to give it to me!

   Nous sommes dans un monde où on ne donne rien gratuitement. Tous les jours on fait semblant de vous donner des choses, des réductions, des cadeaux, mais pour mieux vous inonder de pubs, mails ou sms ensuite. Les vrais cadeaux n'existent pas. Il y a toujours un sens caché à un cadeau. Là non. Michael, car il s'agit de lui, me propose simplement de m'envoyer par la poste cette cassette afin que je le possède, comme une sorte de don, pour qu'elle soit entre les mains d'un collectionneur comme moi.

   We are in a world where we give nothing for free. Every day we pretend to give you things, discounts, gifts, but to better flood you with ads, emails or texts afterwards. Real gifts do not exist. There is always a hidden meaning to a gift. No. Michael, because it is about him, simply offers to mail me this tape so that I have it, as a kind of gift, so that it is in the hands of a collector like me.

   Après un moment de surprise, comme expliqué ci-dessus, j'ai accepté ce cadeau. Et comme promis j'ai reçu la cassette. Un vrai cadeau donc. Merci à toi Michael, que je ne rencontrerais jamais. Ce geste montre que notre terre n'est pas encore totalement morte, qu'il y a de l'espoir vis à vis de l'espèce humaine. J'ai pu examiner cette cassette via des photos mais bien entendu de visu lorsque je l'ai reçu.

   After a moment of surprise, as explained above, I accepted this gift. And as promised I received the cassette. A real gift therefore. Thanks to you, Michael, whom I would never meet. This gesture shows that our land is not yet completely dead, that there is hope for the human species. I was able to examine this tape via photos but of course with my own eyes when I received it.

   Voici cette cassette:

   Michael m'a dit avoir eu cette cassette en 1986 de la part d'un vendeur de disque en Allemagne, la boutique "Salzmann" à Wolfenbüttel. Bien entendu cette boutique ne doit plus exister; comme hélas beaucoup de disquaires. Je ne connais pas la ville de Wolfenbuttel, qui se trouve au Sud de Brunswick. Je dois donc me baser sur ces dires pour authentifier cette cassette comme un tirage promo 3 titres de Somewhere in time, le seul jamais vu à ce jour !

   Michael told me he got this tape in 1986 from a record dealer in Germany, the "Salzmann" store in Wolfenbüttel. Of course this shop must no longer exist; as unfortunately many record stores. I’m not familiar with the town of Wolfenbuttel, which is south of Brunswick. So I have to rely on these statements to authenticate this tape as a promotional print of Somewhere in time, the only one ever seen so far!

   Bien entendu je n'ai aucune raison de douter de sa version. Tout d'abord parce qu'il m'a donné cette cassette. Il n'a pas cherché à me la vendre. Tout faussaire aurait tenté de monnayer son travail. Et il me donne des précisions sur le lieu et la date. En 1986 il n'est pas improbable qu'EMI Allemagne ait envoyé quelques cassettes faites dans le bureau EMI pour l'envoyer a des revendeurs Allemands afin de la passer en boucle dans leur boutique. Pour cela la cassette doit correspondre à la période. Aucun problème sur ce point, elle est identique à des tirages officiels. Et la jaquette doit comporter des indices. Nous sommes en 1986 et il n'y a pas d'ordinateur. Donc tout est tapé à la machine. Cela se voit sur les références et les 3 titres. Mais on ne voit pas les marques de la machine à écrire car je pense qu'il était impossible d'y incorporer le logo et le titre de l'album sans faire un montage avec de la colle. Donc ce papier a été polycopier ou dupliqué avec les techniques de l'époque. Même le boitier comporte le logo EMI, même s'il est possible d'en récupérer un sur une autre cassette. Tout concorde.

    Of course I have no reason to doubt his version. First of all, he gave me that tape. He didn’t try to sell it to me. Any counterfeiter would have tried to monetize his work. And he gives me the place and the date. In 1986 it is not unlikely that EMI Germany sent some tapes made in the EMI office to send it to German dealers in order to loop it in their shop. For this the cassette must correspond to the period. No problem on this point, it is identical to official prints. And the jacket has to have clues. It’s 1986 and there’s no computer. So everything is typed. This can be seen on the references and the 3 titles. But we don’t see the marks of the typewriter because I think it was impossible to incorporate the logo and the title of the album without making a montage with glue. So this paper was duplicated or duplicated with the techniques of the time. Even the case has the EMI logo, even if it is possible to recover one on another cassette. Everything agrees.

   Je peux donc dire que cette cassette est probablement un tirage promo donné a des revendeurs Allemands en 1986, en très peu d'exemplaire. Probablement car 40 ans après je ne suis certains de rien mais ce que je suis sûr c'est que Michael a récupéré cette cassette auprès de ce revendeur en 1986. Nous ignorons juste le chemin que cette cassette a emprunté avant. Ce revendeur à pu la fabriquer lui-même. Dans quel intérêt ? Un tiers a pu la fabriquer et la donner à ce revendeur. Là aussi dans quel intérêt ? Et surtout pourquoi seulement 3 titres et comment techniquement les enregistrer dessus sur une cassette hors commerce ? Autant d'indice concordant pour dire que cette cassette est probablement une vraie pépite.

   So I can say that this tape is probably a promotional print given to German dealers in 1986, in very few copies. Probably because 40 years later I’m not sure about anything but what I’m sure is that Michael picked up this tape from this dealer in 1986. We just don’t know the path this tape took before. This dealer was able to make it himself. In what interest? A third party was able to manufacture it and give it to that dealer. There too, in what interest? And especially why only 3 tracks and how technically to record them on a non-commercial cassette? So much agreement to say that this tape is probably a real nugget.

   Ayant enfin reçu l'exemplaire Américain et ayant eu le temps de scanner ce qu'il faut, je peux vous présenter dans cet article ce produit. Sa référence est BMG Sanctuary 538814831. C'est la référence courte que l'on retrouve en complet dans le code barre qui est 4050538814835. Ces numéros se trouvent sur les stickers.

   Having finally received the American copy and having had time to scan what it takes, I can present you in this article this product. Its part number is BMG Sanctuary 538814831. This is the short part number that can be found in full in the bar code which is 4050538814835. These numbers are on the stickers.

   Au début j'ai eu peur que ce tirage Américain ne soit qu'un import Europe sur lequel deux stickers US ont été apposés. Mais en regardant les tranches j'ai été rassuré par ceci en comparant les deux tirages:

   At first I was afraid that this American print was just an import Europe on which two US stickers were affixed. But looking at the slices I was reassured by this by comparing the two prints.

   Bien entendu j'aurai pu ouvrir le produit pour vérifier les disques mais je n'ouvre pas les vinyles récents. Un autre détail me confirme que les deux produits ont bien été fabriqués dans deux usines différentes. Le tirage Europe est plus haut que l'Américain de 2 mm. Il n'est donc pas parfaitement carré. Le visuel au niveau du poteau du drapeau se prolonge donc. Voici les différences:

   Of course I could have opened the product to check the records but I do not open the recent vinyls. Another detail confirms that the two products were manufactured in two different factories. The European print is higher than the American by 2 mm. So it is not perfectly square. The visual at the flag post therefore extends.

   La dernière confirmation vient des crédits et c'est aussi une surprise car le tirage Américain a été fabriqué au Canada ! Alors que celui pour l'Europe a été fait en Italie, celui-ci n'a pas été fait aux USA. Il semble que les éditeurs, à la recherche du meilleur prix pour fabriquer leur disques, n'hésitent plus à changer de pays et de manufacturier a chaque tirage.

   The last confirmation comes from the credits and it’s also a surprise because the American print was made in Canada! While the one for Europe was done in Italy, it was not done in the USA. It seems that publishers, looking for the best price to make their records, no longer hesitate to change countries and manufacturers with each print run.

   Après une semaine et vacances et des déplacements professionnels je trouve enfin le temps d'écrire un nouvel article. J'ai reçu le tirage Américain de The number of the beast mais je n'ai pas encore eu le temps de le scanner. Ce sera le prochain article. En attendant je vous propose un second CD Chinois, un tirage de Edward the great.

   After a week and holidays and business trips I finally find time to write a new article. I received the American print of The number of the beast but I haven’t had time to scan it yet. It will be the next article. Meanwhile I propose you a second Chinese CD, a print of Edward the great.

   Il est souvent reconnu comme étant le tirage EMI Capitol, à tort car aucune mention de l'éditeur Américain n'est associée à EMI. Car la base de ce fake Chinois est le tirage Europe de 2002. Je précise 2002 car vous savez qu'il y a eu un retirage en 2005 avec des titres différents. Comme pour Dance of death ils ont réalisé une couverture carton, mais moins sophistiquée. Un énorme logo jaune contenant la référence CM0195, le nom du groupe et l'annonce qu'il s'agit d'un best of. Au dos on retrouve exactement la même maquette que le CD Europe.

   It is often recognized as the EMI Capitol draw, wrongly because no mention of the American editor is associated with EMI. Because the basis of this fake Chinese is the 2002 European print. I say 2002 because you know there was a withdrawal in 2005 with different titles. As for Dance of death they made a cardboard cover, but less sophisticated. A huge yellow logo containing the reference CM0195, the name of the band and the announcement that it is a best of. On the back we find the exact same model as the CD Europe.

   Le livret intérieur est aussi copié sur celui précité avec la mention CM0195 rajoutée en blanc sur le dos. A noter que dans les versions que j'ai ce livret n'entre pas dans le couvercle du boitier cristal. Il est trop épais à cause du papier utilisé. Il est simplement glissé derrière la couverture carton dans une pochette plastique.

   The interior booklet is also copied on the aforementioned one with the mention CM0195 added in white on the back. Note that in the versions I have this booklet does not fit in the lid of the crystal case. It is too thick because of the paper used. It is simply slipped behind the cardboard cover in a plastic pouch.

   Concernant le CD il a le même défaut que celui de Dance of death: Il ne reprend pas le visuel avec les titres en cercle mais comprend seulement le nom du groupe, le titre du best of et la référence. Le tout imprimé en mauve sur fond noir, avec une typographie atroce ! Il est donc très moche et cela tranche avec le reste. Dommage.

   Concerning the CD it has the same defect as that of Dance of death: It does not take the visual with the titles in circle but only includes the name of the band, the title of the best of and the reference. All printed in mauve on a black background, with an atrocious typography! So it is very ugly and it contrasts with the rest. Too bad.

   Et comme je ne suis pas rancunier vis à vis de cette faute de goût je vais persister en vous proposant d'ici peu quelques DVD Chinois...

   And as I am not resentful towards this fault of taste I will persist by offering you shortly some Chinese DVDs...

   Je vais prendre quelques jours de vacances mais je reviens vite afin de poursuivre mes articles. Afin de vous faire patienter je vous propose un article sur un CD Chinois, comme annoncé, en l’occurrence un CD de Dance of death.

   I’m going to take a few days vacation but I’ll be back soon to continue my articles. In order to make you wait I propose you an article on a Chinese CD, as announced, in this case a CD of Dance of death.

   Sa référence est Universal Music HDCH 294. Bien entendu cette référence est fantaisiste car ce produit n'est pas officiel. Bien souvent les fakes Chinois prennent cet éditeur en référence, même si le groupe n'a jamais travaillé avec en 2003. Ce sera le cas plus tard aux États-Unis mais sous le nom de UMe. Il y a un code barre présent, là encore sans correspondance officiel: 5896574214715.

   Its reference is Universal Music HDCH 294. Of course this reference is fanciful because this product is not official. Very often the Chinese fakes take this editor as a reference, even if the group never worked with in 2003. This will be the case later in the United States but under the name UMe. There is a bar code present, again without official correspondence: 5896574214715.

   Le produit comporte une couverture carton avec un rabat qui se referme autour du boitier du CD. On voit bien ce rabat sur cette photo:

   The product has a cardboard cover with a flap that closes around the CD case. You can see this flap in the photo upside.

   En fait le rabat comporte le visuel de l'album, avec un rond comporte le logo HDCD et un sticker holographique. Il se rabat sur un autre visuel de l'album sans autre impression dessus. Seuls les textes en Chinois sur la gauche sont toujours visible quel que soit la position du rabat.

   In fact the flap has the visual of the album, with a round has the HDCD logo and a holographic sticker. He falls back on another visual of the album without any other impression on it. Only Chinese texts on the left are always visible regardless of the position of the flap.

   Le livret est très coloré et très complet pour un fake:

   The booklet is very colorful and very complete for a fake.

   Par contre le CD est raté. Il ne comprend qu'un aplat rouge sur lequel le texte a du mal a se détacher. C'est dommage car il n'est pas aussi qualitatif que le reste du produit:

   On the other hand, the CD is missing. It only includes a red aplate on which the text has difficulty to detach. This is a shame because it is not as qualitative as the rest of the product.

   Ce produit est mon second fake Chinois pour ce titre car je possède déjà le tirage EMI Capitol. Il me reste le Silver Line a trouver...

   This product is my second fake Chinese for this title because I already own the EMI Capitol print. I still have the Silver Line to find...

Titre: Dance of death

   Je vous propose un nouvel interlude avec ce CD de Dance of death qui a la particularité d'avoir un sticker spécifique pour la France. Je vous avais déjà proposé un autre tirage spécifique pour la France, avec le sticker collector de The trooper. On va donc faire un comparatif.

   I propose you a new interlude with this CD of Dance of death which has the particularity of having a specific sticker for France. I had already proposed another specific edition for France, with the sticker collector of The trooper. So we will make a comparison.

   Ce tirage est donc une édition Europe de 2003, soit le tirage initial. Techniquement il ne diffère pas de celui que je vous présente sur la page du titre sous la référence CDDODEU7. Il comporte notamment au verso la mention relative à la protection anti-copie:

   This print is therefore a 2003 Europe edition, the initial print run. Technically it does not differ from the one I present on the title page under the reference CDDODEU7. It shall in particular include on the back the reference to the protection against copy.

   Venons-en à la particularité de cette édition, à savoir le sticker Français. Celui-ci indique qu'il s'agit du nouvel album du groupe, mais aussi les deux concerts Français à venir le 22 novembre 2003 à Paris et le 29 novembre 2003 à Nancy. C'est un témoignage d'un petit évènement car c'est surement la dernière fois que Iron Maiden à jouer en dehors de Paris (hors festival comme le Hellfest) et surtout ce concert n'a pas eu lieu ! En effet il a été déplacé du Zenith de Nancy le 29 novembre 2003 au Galaxie d'Amneville (près de Metz) le 18 décembre 2003. Plusieurs raisons ont été données pour ce changement: salle du Zenith trop petite ou extinction de voix de Bruce (d'autres dates en Europe ont été déplacées):

   Let’s come to the particularity of this edition, namely the French sticker. This one indicates that this is the band’s new album, but also the two French concerts to come on November 22, 2003 in Paris and November 29, 2003 in Nancy. It is a testimony of a small event because it is probably the last time that Iron Maiden played outside of Paris (outside festival like Hellfest) and especially this concert did not take place!    Exceptionnellement je ne débute pas mon article par la photo du produit car dans celui-ci je vous propose trois CD de The number of the beast pour le prix d'un ! Car deux sont des produits qui ne comportent qu'un sticker sur le produit et le troisième est déjà connu sur mon blog pour d'autres titres. Donc je vais vous présenter les trois avec quelques commentaires, mais le tout sera assez court.

   Exceptionally I do not start my article with the photo of the product because in this one I offer three CDs from The number of the beast for the price of one! Because two are products that only have a sticker on the product and the third is already known on my blog for other titles. So I’m going to go through all three with a few comments, but it’s going to be fairly short.

   Le premier est un tirage Anglais de 1988 qui comporte un sticker EMI sur le boitier. Cela n'en fait pas un tirage à part pour un collectionneur lamba, pour d'autres si. A vous de voir où vous vous situez dans la folie de la collection ! Ce tirage de 1988, le premier donc, avait comme matrix EMI Swindon.

   The first is an English edition of 1988 which includes an EMI sticker on the case. That doesn’t make it a separate draw for an average collector, for others. It’s up to you to see where you stand in the madness of the collection! This edition of 1988, the first therefore, had as matrix EMI Swindon.

   Le second est beaucoup plus récent car il date de cette année 2022, s'agissant du digipack de 2018 mais avec un sticker fêtant de 40ème anniversaire de l'album. Là aussi seuls les collectionneurs acharnés vont l'acheter juste pour ce petit sticker en plus.

   The second one is much more recent because it dates from this year 2022, as far as the 2018 digipack is concerned but with a sticker celebrating the 40th anniversary of the album. Here again only the fierce collectors will buy it just for this little sticker.

   Le dernier vient des Etats-Unis. Je l'ai acheté dans un stand du market au dernier Hellfest en juin 2022. Comme quoi on peut encore trouver en France des produits étrangers sans passer par le net et les taxes d'importations. Là tout collectionneur doit tenter de trouver cette série dite vinyl replica. Elle daterait de 2002 comme l'indique l'insert Rock In Rio contenu dedans. C'est une belle pièce que j'ai déjà décrite dans un article consacrée à un autre titre.

   The last one comes from the United States. I bought it at a market stand at the last Hellfest in June 2022. As if we can still find in France foreign products without going through the net and import taxes. There any collector must try to find this series called vinyl replica. It would date from 2002 as indicated in the Rock In Rio insert contained in it. It is a beautiful piece that I have already described in an article dedicated to another title.

   Je vais délaisser quelques temps le vinyle pour revenir aux CD et, surprises, à quelques cassettes. Non pas que je les collectionne de nouveau mais j'ai trouvé trois pépites que je n'ai pas pu laisser passer ! En attendant retour donc à quelques CD et débutons par ce CD single Anglais de From here to eternity. Je l'ai eu dans un lot acheté sur internet. Son état est assez moyen mais ce n'est pas non plus une pièce majeure qui mérite de mettre trop d'argent dedans.

Its condition is quite average but it is also not a major coin that deserves to put too much money in it.

   Sa référence est EMI CDEM 240, sous la forme d'un digipack comme souvent pour le groupe dans les années 90. On voit aussi, et c'est nouveau, le groupe en photo sur la pochette en lieu et place du visuel d'Eddie. Un bouleversement qui en amènera d'autres plus profonds.

   Le CD est jaune avec la fameux visuel de la bête que l'on verra plus précisément sur le picture disque découpé EMPD 240. Les logos des droits sont Biem MCPS pour la partie Anglaise et la matrix avait été réalisée par EMI Swindon.
